mpc 60II dreams

i have a couple questions for you guys.

what external zip drive is compatible with the mpc 60II?

can mpc sample disks be used on any mpc?
(i also have access to an mpc 2000)

and finally what is the best keyboard and module to use with the mpc 60II?

SCSI ZIP, not paralell port Zip.

With the 3.10 upgrade and the MPC Editor, any MPC samples (except maybe 4000 and 1000? Mike?) export in mono, 3000 format.

The Asr X Pro is a good combo with the MPC. Basically an Asr-10 in a small box format with pads. When you arent using the sounds and sampler it can double as an effects box for the MPC. As for module..... Hmm I dunno. Actually I like the Roland Fantom. Thats not a module but seems like it would also be an excellent combo with the mpc. I guess it depends on what you like....and what you plan to use it for. I dont incorporate any synths or modules at the moment. If I move into soul an jazz production I will cop some stuff. Listen to the gear and see what you like...

hey elmacaco you wouldnt mind kina breaking this scsi zip thing down for me would you. i dont know much about that aspect, hence the question.

im thinkin asr-10 cus i play my keys, the module to switch it up some. im going to look into that fantom joint thx jrides

Easy, get a SCSI Zip 100 Drive, you can make sure by asking the seller or looking at the back yourself. It should have 2 switches, one for terminae, and one for ID.

Then just get the right cable, always turn on your Zip first, then the MPC, and only **** with the cable with both units off (don't connect while either is on) and you're good.

You'll need to format it, I use 20 partitions on my disks.

zip is good if your 60 has SCSI Jaz is good too..they just waste alot of space because of the 60's HD formatting.......No MPC sample disk cannot be used from a 2k different Floppy format....files are also different....2000 uses wav with pgm. files 60 uses snd. in 12 bit format...the 2000 will load 60 files though!! my advice buy a 4000 i sold my 60 for one and im so happy i did..i love the 4k.

The MPC2000 doesn't use wav, you can save it as wav but if you don't choose that option when saving it's actually a 16 bit .SND file. The 2000 reads 60 files but the 60 cannot read 2000 files. I guess it's cause the 60 is 12 bit.

Its got lots of storage (not as much as the 250 but it is always better to have your songs on severall disk than all on 1 disk (crash, etc.)
I heard that the 250 ones can give problems with the scsi interface, but don't know that for sure.
Also make sure its a Scsi one,

BUMP! I've been searching for this single post for the past week or so as I now have a 60 II w/ the 3000 upgrade and I need a zip drive and I remember reading that the 100 meg joints work better than the 250 meg ones... this post is almost two years old! Using search works! You have to use "And" MAN!

i have a 250 meg scsi attatched to my akai mpc 60 mk1 and i attatch it to the DAW to use with mpc editor. i've not had a problem.

which OS is required to hook up a SCSI zip?
