Freeze upon creating/naming new folder

This problem just surfaced out of nowhere. I created a track and then attempted to save the entire memory to a folder. When I create a folder and namedit, my 2500 froze. I tried this several times and produced the problem everytime. I am using my internal hard drive. When I do this with a CF card, it works fine.

Anyone else had this issue? Everything was fine with me until yesterday.

But anyway...I never tell anyone to just do a search..and I know how to use an MPC. For your information, I have never encountered this problem in 1 year..until yesterday. This kind of came out of nowhere. So I just moved all my files to a CF card, re-formatted my hard drive, and tried again. Everything works the way it has worked for the PAST 1 YEAR.

So, thanks for replying to the thread and providing comic relief....

I did the same thing , just backup and reformat.
It's been allmost three weeks and so far no problems.
But i'm allways keeping a backup just in case it happens again.

Now its my turn......

The problem was creating the new file. It wouldn't let me create a new file without freezing. If this happened once, it will most likely happy again in the future.

Jahrome, do you use the computer to access the MPC drive from time to time?

I very rarely/practically never connect a PC to my MPC via USB.

this is the "new folder bug" which we'd been talking about. create your new folder before you start your project. avoid saving projects/all files overtop of themselves when saving entire memory - this prevents the "DATA ERROR" message which seems to cause a lot of other problems.

search for "new folder" and tbonus to find a good method of avoiding the problem using the akai os.

This problem had nothing to do with re-writing anything. The problem I had would not allow me to create new folders without freezing.

You really are a clown. I don't really need your advice. I have been doing this from the beginning and in fact was among the first (if not the first) to give advice on how to save your project.

the problems are related, asshat. you obviously are lost. and no, you were not the first to post advice about this problem, you're only now complaining about it. go check your dates.

No my son, you need to go back and check dates/previous threads. I never lost files because I was saving my files this way before 99% of the people in this forum even touched a 2500 (and you still haven't, I am guessing).

Now since you are slow, I will explain it to you like a 3 year old. It had nothing to do with overwriting files nor corrupt data:
1. Turn on your 2500 (oops, you don't have one)
2. Go to save menu
3. Create/name folder
4. MPC freezes and needs to be re-started
5. Turn on the MPC and repeat steps 1-3
6. MPC freezes and needs to be re-started

Ok, so now that pre-school is over for the day......

Reformatting the hard drive solved this problem for today. Now run along little boy and report this do JJ so they can give you a few dollars for your troubles.

hey genius: that was exactly our problem before it was solved.

funny that the problem of new folder freezes stopped altogether after we bypassed the saving method that should have worked to begin with.

how's this for preschool: i stopped getting new folder freezes altogether the second i stopped saving files overtop of themselves.

but really there's no reason for me to concern myself with your problems (as i was truly trying to help with my first post before you attacked me) because the fairly unbearable bug was fixed.

You keep digging yourself into a hole. You don't even own an MPC 2500 and can't follow instructions like a 3 year old. Dude, this specific problem was solved with a hard drive re-format and had nothing...I repeat nothing to do with re-writing files/folders. You are a piece of work. But I keep you around like a stray dog I enjoying kicking.

I have been watching this type of post from various people and I am curious if it has anything to do with computer communication corrupting the disk header or file structure.
Thus my reason for asking.
Has anyone had any folder creation problems who had a MPC that had never connected to a computer with the USB?
