MPC and Korg M1

Ok I think I have everything plugged in right. I have the MPC and the M1 plugged into my mixer right now with the 1/4 inch jacks I believe and the mixer is going into the speaker. I also have the mpc going out to the M1 keyboard and the M1 going out to the mpc this is done through to midi cords. Now when I play and record I can play the m1 sound on the m1 and when I click record on the mpc it will record the sounds Im playing no matter if its on the mpc or the m1, all so good.

Now my question is when I change the program to play another instrument on the korg m1 when I go back to play what I recorded on the mpc it plays those same cord I recorded but on the new instrument that is selected. So how do I make it so that when I click record on the mpc to record some notes from the m1 the instrument of the recording doesnt change when I want to add a new instrument?

What you are asking makes since but the korg m1 was not designed for multi midi reception. This means that it works great but only at one channell at a time. Now I could be wrong but I doubt it seeing as I had tried every combi, globlal, and local setting on the damn thing to get it to work. I have by the way it got some good sounds but you have to understand that the board was introduced way back in in the late 80's and was a pioneer of alot of the new stuff out today

I dont know maybe I read that wrong or something but how do I change the instrument that I am playing on keyboard without it playing what I recorded before on the instrument I swithched to?

As I'm looking at the manual,the M1 does comunicate control change from an external gear like the MPC .Go to page 85 and read,also go to Global and set Control Change to ENA. You have to have the M1 in Sequence Mode to use the full capability of the Seq.also read page .135

Oh sorry for not responding but all of that stuff was kind of hard for me to grasp so this is what I did.

1. I plugged everything in correctly
2. I played what I wanted on the keyboard(using the mpc as the main brain to do recording) the mpc recorded the midi notes.
3. I used the mpc recording button(not the one next to play) and made the track I played on the keyboard play solo while I was recording it into the mpc as a sample.
4. I set it to the pad I wanted and then just repayed it using the mpc's pad.

That way its in the mpc and I dont have to have the keyboard plugged in to hear it.

I understand this way and many other ways of recording sound to any MPC's.but Midi is the way to go,not the only way to go.So that's cool the way you have it hooked up.

If you decide to try,which you should.Then......
Plug one midi cord out from the M1 into A or B of the MPC then from the MPC out to the M1 in.From there it's ready to communicate,except we have to turn transmit channel on from the MPC and Receive on from the M1 That's it.Now all you have to do is go to the mpc 1 channel ,make sure its say MIDI Type: Program:No hit open ,you should see a window where it says Transmit No: turn to Yes then next to that, MSB: LSB: This is where you put the number's in to control what sounds you want to here. Go to where it say Program Change: On .This let you scroll through the bank sounds in your keyboard. Also make sure you have your midi channel turned to whatever channel your trying to record....say like Midi:A-Channel 1 and so on,on the Main Screen.You have to do this for every Channel to record different sounds on the MPC midi Channels,you have 32 midi to work with,I don't even use 16,so you have more than enough.....Oh
we need to found out what MSB Controller number the M1 is using .LSB is the controller number that changes the banks where you have the sounds in the M1.I know it might seem confusing but once you get this ,you'll find your self more into midiing all kinds of equipment up to the MPC.....lol

MSB:00 LSB:99 I don't know for sure,so just try it and play around with it,and let me know.

But yea Im pretty stupid when it comes to hooking this stuff up my dad was really good at it and he gave me all of his equipment(he had a very nice studio). but yea I just have to continue to read read read.

The M1 has a multi mode (I think its called Edit Combi)
in that mode you can select 8 parts and assign those parts to a midi channel and every part can have its own sound.
I've had a M1 for a long time.
Sold it 2 years ago cause of space problems,
Now looking for a rack version.

ok here is how i do it with a korg m1 and a mpc 2500:
on the m1 press ->global then ->5 , now change clk to ext and local to off.
now press ->page + and change prog to dis, all other settings to ena.
(if you set prog to ena you can only use the first 100 programs in multi mode but you can restore the track instrument settings from the mpc automatically when loading a sequence.) however i also have a card in the slot on the top of the m1 so i can use 100 more sounds.
now press ->seq, use an empty song and press ->page + untill you see track program and eight times *I00. these correspond to midi channels 1 to 8.
now take the steps explained above for the sequence setings on the mpc, but turn program to off. no need for setting msb/lsb in my method either.
now you can have eight different sounds playing on eight different tracks using another midi channel on each track.
the negative point is that you must choose each program on the m1 manually when you reload the sequence. so label your tracks after the used instrument or program number for quick assignment.
if you want to use combinations you can use only one combination at once. there is no way to use them in multi mode.
if you are fine using just 100 programs on the m1 you can set the program on the mpc to no.1 to no.100 so the mpc tells the m1 which program to use in which track. actually the program number on the mpc will be one digit higher as on the m1, because the m1 counts from 00 to 99. for this midi filtering prog must be set to ena and you must set the m1 to sequencer mode, track program again. you can also adjust the volume of each track on the m1 by pressing ->page + when in track program, back again with -> page-.
hope this is not to confusing, took a while for me to figure, too.
the m1 is a cool piece of gear, but korg did not stick to certain standarts so it is a bit tricky to set up.

I explained the same setup ^^^^^^read. Also midi can communicate with any external hardware,I personnelly don't see why it wouldn't... that's what midi is for. Just Set to Multi-set-ENA-Seq.and you should be able to use the MPC to control all the Programs in the M1,sad part about it is,you only have 1-8 midi channels.
