Loud CRACKLING when sounds are used for a few hours

Hello there.

I have an MPC2000XL which I have bought second hand off ebay from the USA (I am in the UK) so I use a travel step-up transformer to power it.

It works perfectly until I have used it for a few hours. The sounds which I have used over those few hours begin to crackle loudly either when i hit the pads they are assigned to or when a sequence is played which have those sounds used in it.

I would appreciate it very much if somebody could help me with this problem.

DOGG, YOU ARE GENUIS!!! I have the EXACT same problem with my 2k classic but I didn't kno how to ask the ?

After a while, when you hit the pads they give out this like scracthy crackling sound! I hate it yo, especially when I'm almost done loading a song track for track IN CUBASE!!!!

If i had to guesse, I would say it is a problem with the circuit boards. That shit is too deep for me, take it to someone who knows what they are doing.
but before that go trouble shoot.
-make sure the output volume isn't too high,
-see if the left and right channel do this, and the headphone output.
check the amplifier, and speakers, the cables.

Make sure your power cables are tight. Switch cables if you can to see if there's a difference.

if your RAM is dodgy the sounds will corrupt in memory, something to think about.

same thing happend to me, crackling sounds, one day i turned the mpc on, loaded a beat and pressed play. no sound. it has been in a repair shop for the last 4 months and still not fixed. i do not now what the problem is.

funny thing is that i just had it chromed and changed the screen.

I agree with nanoloop, check that and replace if nothing else works.

I've read that if your RAM doesnt have gold layered pins you can get the crackling a lot, I have the exact same problem too, more like extreme heavy distortion on everything and it will also record it as well as save it when you use a previous sequence without crackling...

My problem is non-gold pin RAM and the fool before me expanded with one 32MB module so if you also have the problem that you sometimes get 18 and 32MB RAM...that's why.

If your cables are correct I think it could be your RAM if you've expanded to 32MB.

I think its flashram, have the same thing with my other 2kxl and havent brought it to the repair shop yet. It could be that the OS in rom has been damaged one way or another, there's a pic slot next to the flashrom with a jumper next to it. I think its switching between pic/eprom programmer and internal flash pic ( intel chip ), so that means I could or the akai repair service can load up to flash again...if it aint broke yet.
