Do anyone have any information regarding hardware modifications or beta operating systems for the MPC2000 (not XL)? :?:

what's the purpose, what do you mean?

I want to know if anyone has taken the time to come up with any tweaks for the classic MPC2000 both hardware or software based. Especially for the OS. I think it would be very beneficial if there was a way to give it better file management (an OS upgrade of course) or find a way to mount a zip drive internally (like with the XL model).

It would be great if there was some sort of on going development for this model kind of like how there's hardware and software upgrades that came out years later for the MPC60. It's like a waste of good hardware. Besides, I would think that a few minor mods would furhter enforce the popularity of the Akai product line.

Swiss - How can the XL can be considered an upgrade when the newest features are not easily implemented into the older model? It ceases to be an upgrade and is then called a redesigned model. Would not logic dictate that an upgrade would not require the replacement of the device itself? To purchase the XL would defeat my goal, which is the maximized use of what I already have. I love the feel of my MPC and I hate the thought of chucking a piece of equipment that cost me $1,200 to chase down the next piece of gear that has the latest and greatest toys built into before finding out if there are any third party entities tweaking the OS or hardware in the older model. I’m certain there are others like me (on Billy D Budget status) that would like to exhaust their options before dropping loot on a new MPC2000 XL.

i know this type of topic has been exhausted before in the forums and perhaps it is with a lost sense of faith that we should all just except that there is no hope for some kind of an OS update due to the hardware limitations and AKAI's dis-interest in supporting discontinued products (although they still sell new 2000xl's??).

from my understanding, there is absolutely no room for any new OS features because the flash chip that stores the OS has no resources left to spare.

i don't know, maybe this is just me dreaming but can't one load an OS with a floppy/zip/hd instead of from the flash memory? isn't that how most 2000 users have to boot up their machines anyway?

you may be catching on to what i'm hinting at.. but i agree with "mrfaia" and all the others who have expressed interest in an OS update (as i'm sure all mpc owner would like one). if the flash rom doesn't have the ability to house such an update than could we possibly program a self loading OS from say a zip, floppy or hd (kinda like how the *.asp auto load)?

if the mpc function modifications could be made i'm sure there is a way to do that (that is unless the OS needs to be in that flash rom to run correctly and doesn't use the ram space to run. i have no clue how the mpc OS works though so excuse my ignorance). with that in mind, we would be able to make as big an OS as we wanted with room to spare.

lol!! ya it is a little far fetched.. but i'm sure with the strength of the users that traffic this site there must be someone out there who can take on the challenge. even then... it's a great opportunity for a talented programmer.. they could easily get away with charging for an update which would be some nice coin for them.

that's my piece,

The XL is an upgrade on the 2000 - just like a new car is an upgrade to the old one. Perhaps there is some mechanic somewhere who'll install power steering and ABS brakes into my crappy old car - but practicallities dicate that you accept the old machine has to go, sell it secondhand and 'upgrade' to a better model that has the features you now require.

What upgrades are you specifically looking for?

well tutor...

pretty much alot of what is listed on the mpc2000xl.com

http://www.mpc2000xl.com/wishlist.htm

more specifically these ones

 When the unit is playing and slaved to midi clock, and you change the NV slider options, it goes into stop mode upon leaving the NV options page.

 Change sequences from the TRACK MUTE screen. Very Important! Not a problem with former model MPC. *Even then if something could be created to record the sequence changes in song mode that would be even more ideal (set the amount of bar and allow it to play while you change the loops).

 TC values such as 1/4, 1/2 and even 1/64.

 Real-time record of track mutes/un-mutes for individual sequences.

 Solo function should not only work with ONE selected pad, but also with more than one.

 need "Keygroups" to select more than one sound for the "Note Vari.-Fader" and/or other types of effects

 Normalize & any other volume level/compression type effects would be nice for boosting sounds. Pitch envelope and LFO.

 velocity/volume control in the "Note Vari-Fader"

 Option to copy and paste settings from one sample to some or all notes in the program. (Currently works for individual notes, but can't apply to several or all notes at once)

 transferring samples via SCSI like the "s" series samplers from akai but eh whatever. i don't have enough memory in the ram to warrent such a feature but it would be nice when backing up and processing/editing files.

aside from that just any of the major bugs that people are having. i do like the operation of the mpc, that's why i bought it, but i feel with a bit of tweaking we can use it's automation features more efficiently when creating song structures without all the mechanics of editing. that one thing alone is what i would want more than anything out of an update.

p.s i agree with your comment about buying a new model and have been looking to pick up a 1000, 4000 or rack sampler for some time.
