can anyone make sense of this

I brought a GE compact card reader that uses usb for my mac it has a mac logo on it I was wondering why my computer wont reconize it? got about 4 gigs of drum samples that i need to get on a card and over to the 2kxl help please

Does the mac not recognize the card reader or the card ? What type of card is it and what machine was it formatted on ?

it doesn't even notice it was in the usb drive it was a compact flash reader it's also a compact flash card that i been using on my mpc2kxl i have a mpc editor for my mac i'm trying to get the programs i made for the drums on the card[/i]

the card is formatted to the mpc cause i got samples and ish on it right now the size is 48mb it's temporary i got a 6gb comin in the mail but i''m trying to get the programs on it the OS on the mpc i'm unsure its the standard that comes on the the regular 2kxl it's the older grey one but i put a card reader in it instad of the floppy

Ok then I assume that it's not os 1.20. and this is the cause of your problem. If you format a cf card on an MPC with an os prior to v1.20, you will not be able to read/write on the card from a computer. What you need to do to have a card that can be both read/written is to format it on your computer (fat 16).

BTW there is no use in buying a 6gb card since your mpc will not recognize it unless you partition it while formating (thus making it unreadable on a computer).

hmm... I mean if I formatted the card why wouldn't it work on my computer as well? I didn't quite understand that. I was actually told the 6gb card should work

Because you formatted it on your MPC and not on your PC. os1.14 uses a format that is not recognized by your computer, that's why. If you format the card on your computer (fat 16) then your MPC will be able to read and write to the card as well as your computer. As for the 6 gb card once again you will need to partition it on your mpc for it to be able to use the full 6Gb and this will make the cards unreadable on your computer, and thus unusable for transferring data between the mpc and the computer.

ohhhh so i have to lose all my info on the card first huh? but say I take this old 48mb card get my drum program on there then load it on the mpc take that card out and put the 6gb in there and resave the program and sounds onto it? will that work well?

Yes, you can format the 6 gb card to be used exclusively on the mpc and use a smaller card that you formatted on your computer to transfer data back and forth between the computer and the mpc.
