Can someone suggest a decent and moderately priced (preferably under $100) mic to use with the MPC 2500 for sampling and the direct record feature?

I would suggest the SM57 or SM58 (I have an SM58 in my drawer). It's a good investment because you will always keep this microphone even when you buy better ones in the future. It's a standard microphone for any collection and should be perfect for what you are doing (vocals I assume).

It's at the top of your budget, but I believe you can ask them to do a package for $99 to include the xlr > 1/4" cable and microphone shipped and out the door. You may even be able to get it a bit cheaper, just ask them for the best price they can do "out the door" with the cable.

Man, I'd go with this:

They are really clean mics at an extremely low price. Only problem is they both require Phantom power which might mean another purchase unless you have a pre-amp or mixer that you can use.
