Why wouldn't you try it? It CANT ruin it.

It may be highly unlikely to ruin it...but there is a chance that it could do something harmful. An MPC is a computer. Bad things have happened to computers. Plus, I will not pay for this OS knowing that it will have bugs/issues. I can sit out and let you guys beta test this one.

For now, I will only install Operating systems approved by Akai. I am pretty happy with the 2500 as it stands....but would like to see MTC implemented like the 2000XL or 3000. In fact, I really just want the 2500 to be fully compatible with the 2000XL and 3000...to include all their features. That would do it for me. All the other things on my wish list is just nice things to have and make it stand above/beyond copy cat drum machines on the market. There really is nothing that Akai or JJ can install in an MPC OS that many of us don't already have in another piece of gear.

We have been living without SIMULT in the 2500...but since I use Battery along with both my MPCs for drums, it is really an after thought. I tweak my drums all within Battery...get them to sound exactly the way I want them to...and then sample into my MPCs. Similar to the way one of my favorite producers does it (I was doing this before I found out he did the same ).

But anyway, I respect MPC 2500 users desire to install this JJ OS in their 2500, if those features are what they really need or want. Be sure to report your findings here so folks can make an informed purchase. But I can't promise that I won't have a few jokes for you if you have any issues with the OS

i'm going to whack it on. but if it doesnt fix the MIDI mute problems ill just go back to the "official" os.

oh btw. what is stopping one of us downloading this OS and then sharing it out to everyone? I dont mind spending the money if anyone wants to "test it in a test lab enviroment:"

It appears everyone can download it and demo it for free. You will not be able to save anything without entering a password which you have to pay for. I take it that the password is unique to each MPC.

yaeh the demo generates a random set of numbers which get decoded when you buy the os. hopefully they'll release a beta (i think they have to actually) similar to what they did with the 1000.

who is your fav producer(s)??? me? aww thats so nice of u hahahah but I just keep the drums in battery and trigger them with the mpc

Well, I am always looking for a new favorite producer.

But I was talking about Dre. Master of making the most simple/basic compositions into something hot. But he doesn't use Battery, I believe. He uses samples, run them through an analog board/compressors..tweak them to the sound the way he wants...and samples them into the MPC 3000.

someone tell me about battery - is it just a really good drum module? i've heard its very convenient and visual (esp for envelope). does it only take recorded wavs or can you record/sample directly into battery?

It's just a really nice interface and has good fx.
You can configure how many sample cells per row. It can be set up to mirror the mpc.

It's basicaly just the mpc's program view on steroids. Lots more features of course.

Can't record in directly tho.

yeah its good. i actually prefered the V1 over the V2 but then Im a technophobe (!).
no seriously i thought the layout was better, plus if you have the ... hmmm, ASPI layer I think installed you can read the original AKAI format CDS. which is where I started getting in this MPC thing actually.

I had forgotten about that..... ahhhh simple days

Hell version 3 is out and even better. FUlly customizable (did I spell that correctly)!
