There is no "best way", there is ONLY the way that works for you and your samples/sounds.

If your not wanting to get annoyed while going through the hardships of learning techniques/making great music then you should quit.

If you are the persistent type and want to learn more then keep going.

Figure out the tuning.

The older mpc 1k manual says:

Setting the volume and the tuning for a sample

my feeling with basslines is that most times you have it or you don't. some people can't tell when they're listening to something out of tune.....i can :D

could you explain exactly how you are currently making the basslines?

'tuning' could mean a lot of things, let us know what you're doing and ill tell you if your process could be simplified

It's mad easy to find your bassline in your sample.... Just listen. and lift it up with a low pass filter. resample if needed.
