Am I F**king up my sound???

Here's the deal, I sample from my t-tables directly into my MPC, then construct the tracks on my MPC and record them directly onto soundforge. So basicly I play it(MPC) live and record it in real time on my pc, no mixer, and I know I'm not utilizing soundforge to its fullest, just using it to record, very basic. My question is should I be doing this a different way? Cuz it does sound a little dirty when I play it back. I do like a little grit on my tracks but not quite as much as I'm getting. Peace.

Before they go in to the MPC, or after?

It can be an issue with your soundcard/audio interface. What kind of soundcard/audio interface are you using to record the output of your MPC into your computer? You may also want to adjust the samplerate on soundforge to make sure you're recording to optimum levels.

I dunno about EQ'ing. But if you do not have a decent soundcard to connect the MPC to and get a clean signal, then EQ'ing before won't help much. You will only be EQ'ing the sound and then ending up with the same "dirty" result (except EQ'ed accordingly). If you EQ after you get the signal into your computer, like say with a plug-in in Soundforge, then you will just be EQ'ing a "dirty" signal and probably won't be getting a cleaner sound that you desire.

I'm far from an expert but that's just my 2cents. If you elaborate on what you mean by "dirty" and what your set-up is like for recording in the audio from your MPC I'm sure people will be able to be more helpful.

I just have a soundblaster sound card. As far as them being "dirty", I just mean the way the sounds are coming straight off the vinyl. I guess I just want to know how the others in here record their tracks. Like I hear alot about how people will import their sequences track by track into their pc from the MPC and then lay it down on whatever program they are using as oppose to the way I'm doin' it:no mixer, str8 out of the box into the pc to record.

You need a better soundcard....Sound Forge is basically a 2 track mastering device or a sound editor

here's another possible problem:

when you say: "I sample from my t-tables directly into my MPC" do you go through a pre amp, or not? if not, you'll have to crank up the Rec gain on the mpc, which will introduce loads of noise. if you have a RIAA pra amp, a DJ mixer, or a TT with line level outputs, you should be fine.

Take it easy man.....what soundcard you should get depends both on what you are trying to do now and where you want to take your setup in the future and a third factor would be your budget. Without that info it's kinda hard to help......
