overdub in step/grid edit

go into step edit and change the velocity of a note. OVERDUB is turned on.
go into grid edit and delete a note. overdub is turned on.

before 2.1, when you did something like this, overdub was not turned on.
when we got 2.1, i had to get used to that. i never liked it.

i think overdub should only be turned on by the overdub button - go figure.

does this bother anyone else?

Has caused some trouble for me, after switching velocity of a note you might want to know which exact sample is the following event if it might need some tweaking too. To check what´s hiding behind "A8" you hit pad 8 just to end up with a new pad number and velocity on the event you just edited.

Frustrating indeed.

I think I recall JJ trying to change that behavior, but then changed it back and commented on his site that he had to change it back due to other problems that arose when he removed that behavior.

But yeah, it is kinda annoying for sure.

based on that little trial period (the "hit overdub" message) i think the reason is that overdub has to be activated for such changes to be made. however, what if it activates and then deactivates? that'd work, right?

Yep, that would be cool. I'm guessing that it is probably hard to implement since there would be a number of different circumstances (diferent types of edits, meaning different scenarios) that would have to be included that would result in an "overdub off" action.

agreed. although i was thinking that this choice might be a way to get rid of many difficult bugs in one go.
what i don't like is doing a change in grid edit. then press play to hear the track and having the countdown of pre-recording because overdub has been turned off.
