MPC 1000 with MPD24?

I am interested in using an external MIDI controller with the MPC 1000, hopefully in order to be able to trigger samples individually while the MPC is in NEXT SEQ or TRACK MUTE mode. The idea would to be able to play live, playing samples while also selecting the next sequence to play.

Just a couple questions:

Can I trigger samples from MIDI in while the MPC is in NEXT SEQ or TRACK MUTE mode?

Is the MPD24 worth it? I suppose I could use the MPD16, but the MPD16 only has 2 banks, while the MPD24 has 4, like the MPC 1000. But I don't know if I would use all the sliders or knobs.

Does anyone else use the MPD24 with the MPC?

As far as I know, external midi notes will only trigger the samples to which the specific notes are applied for the currently selected program. Other "alternate" functions can be accessed from the MPC1000 pads only.


It's possible this could be changed in the software some day, but until then....

I know it is not possible to selected a sequence or track via MIDI input... what I would like to do is trigger programs from external midi, while at the same time selecting a sequence or track with the MPC 1000 pads.

Basicly, I am looking for a way to manually play programs, while at the same time muting tracks or selecting the next pattern. It doesn't matter to me on which device is which.

I currently don't have a MIDI device to test this out myself, but if someone has a midi device, could they see if they can trigger programs from the MIDI device while in Next Seq or Track Mute mode?

By "trigger programs" do you mean switching between different programs or triggering the assigned samples within the programs themselves?

Like I said, sample triggering via midi notes works fine. The newer OS versions also DO allow you to switch sequences via external program change commands, but I haven't yet come across any way to switch the *programs* externally.

There's been a good amount of interest in expanding the 1000's capability for remote control via midi, but most of these ideas haven't been implemented just yet.

The normal way to do things is:

When you press a key, a sample is triggered.
So you press NEXT SEQ.
Then you press the seq you want on a pad.
Then you press MAIN.
THen you press the program sample you want on a pad.

So the normal way things work, you cannot play samples and select the next sequence at the same time. This makes like performance where you are playing pads, and also selecting sequences, difficult.

What I would like to do is play samples from the midi controller, while pressing pads on the MPC to select the NEXT SEQ, simultaniously. That way I can play samples (say, manually play a drum part), while selecting patterns that contain a bassline or high hat or whatever.

So basically, you want to use an external controller to play the samples while you use the 1000 pads to switch functions in the alternate modes.
