A couple needle/cartridge questions

So I finally picked up a couple new cartridges - it's been too long, and I've got a couple questions. These are only the second pair that I've bought, so I'm still not sure on a couple of things. I've got stanton straight arm tables and I ended up grabbing a couple stanton cartridges (they were out of the shure's that I wanted.)

I was reading the instructions and it said not to angle the cartridges on straight-arm tables. Ummm... that's how I had it set up for the past couple of years.... So, I set them up as recommended, but the thing is - they're tracking like total a$$. I have to crank the weight to get them to not skip at the slightest touch. I don't if somehow I set 'em up wrong, or what... Would it be worse for my records to angle the cartridge or put more weight on them?

A possibly related problem - a couple of my records are farting on the low end with the new needles. They definitely have more bass response than my last pair, but it's kind of ridiculous. It's not the mixer, amp, or my headphones- the records sounded fine before I switched. It's a bit better with more weight, so do you think it's related to my tracking problem??

...or did I just by a$$ed out needles? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me - I don't want to mess up my records.

i take it there Dj needle's huh? i would try to balance it out and redo them again maybe maybe you just did set it up wrong.
as far as set it up at angle your going to stregtch the groove out and puttin to much weight on will dig in deep to the groove so you damned if you do and damned dont are you r useing the anti skating control? try to set that up ,
i'm not really sure how the straight arm tables work as i havent had one in 30 yrs, i do remebr them being a little more different then an S-shape tone arm


are you using these for scratching/djing or for listening/sampling purposes?

as far as bass your going to get a cleaner sound cause your other needle's were prolly shot and your use to the sound by now. try to set up your EQ a little better for the new neelde's.. maybe .

Thanks for the tips - - I tried it last night with some more weight and it seems much better. I don't think I have anti-skating on my tables - they're cheap stanton's. Admittedly, while I know my gear in and out, but I'm kind of dumb with the tables. I'm a crap dj, and I don't sample as much as I used too, so they're mostly for listeing at this point. I may still have some tweaking to do, but I think I'm gettin 'er figured out. Thanks
