Forum to discuss all matters relating to the MPC1000 and MPC2500 operating systems created by 'JJ' (all versions).

Three things I like a bit less in the JJ OS.

1.While the pads trigger a midi device and you hold a pad while switching to a different bank, the pad you hold will change into the pitch of the new bank.

2. in the load screen unable to select the type of data I only want to see (songs, sequences, programs, samples)

3. The mute screen have inverted mute color. That is confusing if you are using two different models of mpc's. And especialy live on stage I would mix it up and play tracks instead of mute.

For the rest I still have to find out what differences the Akai and JJ OS have.

what do you expect in a useless topic ;P

By ascdi Mon Oct 16, 2006 2:31 pm
i think this is a valid topic.

for example, i hate the way JJ have changed the trim screen. i think the display was more accurate (when fully zoomed out) in 2.1. and i'd rather jump right in close with window + log than go 'click click click click click' to zoom in vertically and horizontally in JJ. also, sometimes the display of slices gets a little confused. and there doesn't seem to be a way to merge slices other than just moving the edge of one way over to the next one. since slice is practically all i do, i'm still on 2.1.

you must be joking. the new slice and trim beat the funk out of 2.1.

this still confuses me sometimes, i think it's the only thing i've read here that i've thought about.

nope, not joking!

and slice isn't "new", as far as i can tell. it just works the same way except the display glitches out and is less accurate and doesn't zoom properly and they took away features like easily merging slices!

To bring the obvious to light, everyone has the option to just not continue to use it also.

the display glitch only seems to happen when you zoom all the way out - that is a pain, but it seems to have happened less in the last os's.

i think merging slices by combining end points is easier than bringing up an unnecessary sub menu (where you can't even necessarily see which slices you're merging!). but of course, to each his own.

as for accuracy, i feel like i'm far more accurate and more importantly fast w/ 2 dimensions of zooming instead of just "log" view. not to mention the ability to make one-tenth chops...

oh lamp by the way you might want to edit this, i'm lobbying congress to invade any nation which harbors 2.1 users. EVIL EXISTS.

the reason i converted back to os2.1 was becasue in patch phrase it cant extract my slices correctly. it can be a kick and when i go to extract it from the pp it gives me half of the kick. its really annoying.. that and pp has no ability to change tempo but i learning another method so screw pp

that's good to hear. i haven't tried any of the super-latest builds.

i can certainly see this point of view. i was just used to it the other way with the menu. i don't really see the point of taking that out, but who knows what the technical reasons are.

really? i might have to try it again. i find that i spend a lot of time either zoomed all the way out, or all the way in, rarely in between. that's why i liked the no-nonsense akai way of trimming. the jj way is certainly more flexible, and i tried to give it some time, but i just couldn't really get into it. i think with most samples (ones with a regular vinyl-ish noise floor), jj zoom is probably easier to read than "log", but again, i wish they'd at least left the other way in.

not sure what you mean by 1/10th chops. is it something i should check out?

I agree with Nym... I love the ability to zoom vertically and horizontally in the JJ os. I never liked the AKAI zoom on all the MPCs.

absolutely. this is one of the simplest and coolest functions, and one of the demonstrations of why this coder is particularly sharp - he adds very good smalltime stuff.

ok - say you have an 8 bar sample, each note = 1 bar. ideal for an 8 zone slice, correct?

what if the 9th bar starts with a nice sample as well that's 1/2 a bar? here's when you tell the zone function to chop at 8.5 bars. this can be used for various purposes, including getting start points in the general region of your chop and then going back and merging end points quickly to get your regions.[/code]
