Data wheel problems..

Hello. I recently purchased my first mpc from ebay. I've been a software user for about 6 years but i've decided to make the switch.
It seems as if the datawheel isn't working but it's hard to know. Should something happen when you turn the datawheel no matter what screen you are on? Is there a quick an easy way to test it?
If it is broken what would be the best action to take?

try just highlighting the tempo and change that on the main screen. if it doesnt work then yeah your data wheels is hurt. You could try taking off plate and wheel see if it is actually turning the bit inside.. mayby the plastic broke along the bit and is no longer turning it but just moving over it.. if it is turning the bit then your best bet would be to contact vst and see if they can help you. i think other places like guitar center can also repair them but i would imagine it would cost a lot more than vst would.
