just got ASR-10 need some help

its dope. nice effects and shit. but i came across some problems i was hoping you guys could maybe help with....

1. I have a 150mb multi disk drive. i saved the O.S to one of those disk as a back up so i wouldnt have to keep using the master disk.
.. but when i go to change storage device ( so i can load a floppy with samples on and this is after i loaded the os with the scsi) it says "no disk directorys" ??

2. could someone give me a small tutorial of how to sample vinyl into this thing.. I go to "sample source" make sure that the plugs are on i choose input dry or whatever. but i get completly lost from here.....?

3.is there a way to save a program of sound files. (like on the mpc 2000xl)??? so i dont have to keep loading up individually...

4.how would i load a kick up.. then a snare and place a kick on the same track as the snare. ( so the kick key is right next to the snare key)????

5. another problem im having is those to "A and B" buttons to right of the ASR-10... my ASR is not next to me right now so i dont know the names..

But they make this UNBEARABLE UNGODLY AWFUL sound when i hit one of them.. what is going on here?????


id apprieciate any help i can get.. ps i looked for anwsers to these questions in the manual and various other places but i cant seem to find the right ones....

yes i read all the chapters that i needed info for.

i dont mean to be a dickhead but doesnt reading manuals cover to cover defer the purpose of a message board? its more convenient if people just join and help eachother out instead of doing things the hard way and being stingy about shit.

i joined a few user groups already. sorry for the novel of questions but i dont have time to read a 200 page keyboard manual. i thought some experianced users could have helped me out on here...

Well, no, it doesn't.

The manual goes so far, the message board ideally is for going beyond the manual, like user tips on how to do shit when you have more than one option, or for out there shit like installing a CF reader in a 2k, etc.

These aren't here for newbies, they are for everyone.

If you don't have the time to read the manual, you will waste other people's time telling you shit that you could have found out for yourself quicker. Not to mention wasting your own time trying to figure it out when three sentences in the manual could have told you all you needed to know. Or hell you could discover shit that other's overlook and actually contribute to the knowledge here, instead of just take take take.

More convinient for you to have others hook you up out of the kindness of their hearts on easy shit. Save it for when you are really in trouble, not when you just got it out of the box and don't know where to start.

Read the tutorials on this site if you haven't already. Phuck, I did and I knew most of the shit on there already. It still helped.

What's next, you want us to chop your breaks for you?

I don't mean to be a dyk, but seriously man, this isn't even an ASR forum, and you talk about not wanting to waste YOUR time!!! I gotta crawl through these ASR posts to get to the meaty on the MPC? S h i t. Most people on here don't own an ASR, this is a hail mary here dude.

RTFM, get up on your gear, it can only help you. Not a waste, an investment, then you can not be stingy with your shit and help out other cats having ASR trouble. ya dig?

The disk need to be Ensoniq format which is proprietary NOT Windows/MAC or anything else. DONT expect it to be good unless you format it using the ASR.

Yes, they are called BANKS (same as PROGRAMS in the 2k/2kxl). It's detailed further in the manual

Use only one track for drums. Each sample that is placed in the ASR is called a WAVESAMPLE (WS - in the manual, stereo samples will be WS-1 for left and WS-2 for right)

They correspond to your inputs you have in the back of your ASR. A- left, B-right

I went through EVERY word of my manual WHILE playing with the ASR at the same time and figured it all out (Did the same with my 2kxl and Triton - why would you NOT do that?). Do that FIRST for a week or two THEN you will have ran across several menus and options that you will need in order to make a beat, don't go straight for the beat without knowing the menus/options of your own gear. That's like Dracula looking at someones neck but not knowing what to do with it.

i figured most of things out already so ill just analyze the manual a little better like you guys suggested.

i apologize for any inconveniences i may have caused here, i really didnt mean to start beef or somthing. im a lazy person so i tend to do shit like this...

ill keep this thread in mind the next time i buy equipment.

No beef at all Aaron, it's just when someone asks a basic question that I KNOW is in the manual I will point them back to the manual cause really man, it's your gear and you should be trying to find out everything about your gear that you possibly can so when it comes time to make a beat you already got the situation under control AND you will most likely have found some menus/options that normal fumbling through stuff you would have never found and that might make the difference between a wack beat and a beat using one of those hard to find options that makes a world of difference ya dig?
