Ha ha, that's funny.... but no, I don't think JJ is involved because I've met the people who are. I was actually present for the live performance in the video. It was held at a now-defunct weekly called SPECTRUM for a special "new music tech" night Those DJs/organizers are old friends of mine (most of them have since moved to doing Mondays at a place across the street).

It was pretty funky walking in on the middle of that set -- at first I couldn't tell if they were really producing sound with that setup or playing some kind of weird video-overlaid air hockey game. Nice programming thou...

i wont say it aint cool, but how can you bang this thing? all the movements
loox subtle and gliding..how do yo compose with it?
it looks like a perfect live application for ambient stuff but not for banging out beats..I mean it loox cool from the users view but from the audience it just loox like somebody playinng chess with themselves innit?

from a live perspective it wont replace the knob twiddling and pad banging
effect imo..

I don't think anybody really expects it to replace anything or have any revolutionary effect on composition. It's really just a loop arranger with an easy to use and eye pleasing interface. Of course the basic loops themselves are imported and can't be composed with this system -- you need some type of external application or instrument for that.

All in all, I think it qualifies as a good but typical emusic student thesis project -- cool and fun for what it is but too impractical and without enough advantages over existing devices to really take off into widespread usage.
