what's your general opinion after 3 months of use

..of the MPC 1000?

Interface, Pads & Sound quality-great, sequencer-ok, sampler-"ehhh", & other features-bad (mostly they are missing).

Oh yeah, the size is real nice.

The 1k is nice for a newbie but Im ready for the 4k since Ive been dealin wit the mpc family for a min.! But the 1k is a lil beast tho~

After 3 months. It's AiiGht! This is my first piece of gear. It gets the job done but I need a Hecky lot more than that. I got a lot of ideas and so far the MPC's sampler is too limited for the type of sample mangling I've only been dreaming about doing. I think I'm eventually going to get either a dedicated rack sampler like a Z8 or get the 4000.

The 1000 is tight, but since I didn't know to much about gear before I bought this I was a little disappointed, I didn't realize that it's main function was just sequencing.

At least I can make beats for right now and flesh out basic stuff, and it gives me a good idea of what I want in gear for the future. I definitely need some dope samplers.

My first MPC, had it for a month and I love it. The size is great, you can easily take it round to mates houses, gigs etc, and its easy enough to pick it up and start making beats for beginners like myself.

Originally I was going to get a 4000 but wasn't sure as its so expensive, then I saw that the 1K was coming out and its a lot cheaper, so I got one.

Still plan to get a 4K though as MPC's are the dogs nuts.

Good for newbie producers on the MpC bandwagon (i wanna make hiphop, better get an mpc) but limited for real producers. I use it as an idea-scratch-pad. Awesome for trips since you can't take your whole studio with you. That and a 2gig card will provide hours of beat makin' fun.

i've had a MPC60, 2000 and the 2000xl, and i can i say i absolutely love the mpc1000. if you really know how to pimp an MPC, the 1000 will cause you no heartaches. i wouldn't give mine up for nothing. not only is the sequencer as tight as the 60, having the ability quickly chop, slice, mutulate or do whatever you want in the computer, then within seconds have it on my pads is incredible. i've got my 1000 completely running Live's audio seq.

i could go on and on. i don't really understand peoples beef or delusions about lack of features. sure if it did this..., or what about that..., whatever. for the money, size, seq. and connection to computer ease, it's worth it. my tracks are getting made and the machine has given me not one hick-up. it doesn't get in my way as a producer and engineer and that's what i'm looking for.

i hope this helps.....i wouldn't pay attention to nay-sayers...they're probably not going to get anything "really" done regardless of the machine's they buy.

seriosuly. if you know what youre doing on a few different platforms then you understand how kick ass the 1k is.

I've had mine since they became available. I only recently started messin' with it about a month ago. I've had about four hours worth of serious playtime with it, and even though I haven't really gone thru the manual, have already made a pretty tight beat. This thing is is awesome. Although I'm sure that some of the more advanced features may require me to skim thru the manual, all the basics can pretty much be accessed using common sense. This is my first piece of equipment, ever! I'm very satisfied with it.

Had mine for like 3 months and change myself, and I am loving it.

I only have a lttle bitta beef in trying to record sequence data into Cubase (seems the 1k adds an additional track of MPC-only data, even to .mid files and I remember this being the case with .mids imported from my 2k as well) but it's all good. Only other issues are lack of Velo% and lack of dedicated program selection on the main screen. Perhaps Akai will change these, but they're not much of a deterrant.

The sequencer is tight as ever. The compact size and compactflash are great. The speed with which I can set up 20 tracks worth of loops using all my outboard gear and software kicks ass! (the 2k, in contrast, couldn't change from Drum to MIDI tracks while playing, is one thing that pops to mind) The effects are good enough for roughing, usually only requiring minimal tweaking in whatever software. I still haven't sampled a great deal on it, but I've sampled enough to know the editing is good enough for grabbing drums, which is its primary function anyway.

It sits in my setup much easier than the 2k, is much easier to transport and is an absolute bargain for under a grand. I'll be using the little blue box much more in the coming months for my new website, dcbeats.net, and I'm sure it'll work just as great as my old 2k I just sold. (which crashed more than a couple times, and had issues with SCSI devices fallin off the deep end...)

Anyhow, I have no regrets whatsoever for having bought myself this much-deserved Christmas present.

I got mine close to 2 months ago and it's great! No problems with the MPC it self - I love the fact you can resample the internal sounds and seq's plus you can sample your midi instruments right into it - It's really easy and fun to write tracks, bang out ideas and create small parts for bigger projects - The Reverb, Bit Grunger, Filters and Compressor are all top notch!
