Recording Modulation in/out from synth

I've had some succuess in this endevour but seem just crash my MPC and Virus everytime I run Midi out with notes and Midi back in with modulation. I know that this is all just a matter of Midi configuration but I really feel stuck everytime I try to make it work. Any clues about the best way to make the machines shake hands?

When you say Modulation do you mean the modulation wheel?

Is it a hardware Virus?

Assuming the answer is yes to both questions. On the MPC check the settings on the Midi input. Disable SYSEX reception on the MIDI input filter. If the MPC receives too much midi information at once it can cause the MPC to lock up.

Also make sure Local control is off on the Virus.

does it work if you record the modulation on next/other track?
ive had problems with virus b desktop while recording mod and pitch weels.
i have to use the wheels while playng the notes from the keyboard. if i try to record them after the notes nothing happens...
