Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

i finally upgraded to a card reader in my xl. i used search to find all the info for doing that but one thing i cant find much info on is is it necessary to upgrade to os 1.20? i see some people say they're still running 1.14 (or whatever it is) & others say you hafta go 1.20 for cards over 512mb unless you dont mind partitions.

im still on 1.14 & i loaded my sound library onto a 1gb card & from what i can tell my mpc can see all the files. i guess my question is, is there any danger in not upgrading the os?

i thought u needed to upgrade the OS before u install the card reader so the mpc can reconize the card reader :?:

If it works for you then don't chage it. Just keep in mind that the 1.20 os can format cf cards that are readable on a computer, if you were to use os 1.14 then you must format your media on the computer if you want it to be readable by both mpc and computer.

Good to know. I am waiting on my drive now, and that is really good to know.

Any other things the new OS might have in it?

Just like pt3r wrote - 1.2 OS allows your computer to see the CF card after formating it in the mpc.The 1.2 OS doesn't have the partitioning option though. As far as I know these are main differences between 1.14 and 1.2.

My advice is,don't change your OS to 1.2 (if you are running 1.14 now),before you install the card rader.Because...If something goes wrong (hope not) and you'll have your power cable changed (modified) after the floppy drive, you won't be able to go back to 1.14.
Good luck!

No.

1.20 is what pt3r said it is, nothing more.

mine is working just fine on the old os
Mine too, 1.14 w/ 512mb lexar cf.

If it works for you then don't chage it.
Peeps continue to be blinded by new shiny stuff :? ..

and you'll have your power cable changed (modified) after the floppy drive, you won't be able to go back to 1.14.
I have both, floppy AND molex (ide pwr connector) on the same cable in case I need it, I had that problem when I tried out 1.20, I ended up having to install my floppy again and go back down to 1.14, easy. So I wouldn't say you CAN'T change back, I'd say with proper preparation and common sense you'll have no real problems. I was thinking ahead and I had my own y cable prepared for any disasters 8) .
