got back my mpc from repair so I can proceed my beat experiments..

my serial number is 70045 - 00422

can that mean that my mpc is number 70000th thousand in the production chain?

can some body post your serial number? maybe then we can see how many where manufactured?

I bought my unit 2nd hand in April 2006.
The dude i bought it from had it for a year and wasn't using it.
He bought it brand new between Feb-05 and April-05

it's strange that I have an higher number than yours...

maybe if we ask someone who bought their mpc2kxl very early about their serial number
and then we could ask some one who got it late....

mmmm.. and don't know maybe if more people start emailing akaipro with the same question

No doubt we need more serials, because then we can figure out where the numbering system starts. I'm willing to bet some of the numbers represent what factory and/or assembly line the machine was made on. Sort of a tracking type of thing for Akai in case of a recall.

Post your 2000xl serials

I emailed midicase who manages the mpc2000xl.com site
about the production numbers with the mpc2kxl.
His repsonse look like this:

"I do no have access to recent numbers, but in '99 the Akai website had:

"Commemorative MPC celebrates the 30,000th unit sold!"

That would lead me to to think that about 20,000 MPC2000 units sold:
30,000 - 3251 - 5224 - 1292.

I do not think that includes the even more popular XL series released in
really late '99.

Units sold are usually closely guarded numbers." - midicase.com
