i need a new drum machine

If I had the greenbacks and wasn't already worrying about my gearlust, I'd pick up an Elektron Machinedrum.

That thing's got more sounds than you can shake a stick at, is more editable than any other drum machine you'll find, uses both synthesis and and presampled sounds of all sorts and has the coolest look of any modern drum machine. Slick and silver. This thing has LFOs, does 4 types of synthesis and will sit well in any MIDI-based setup.

If only it wasn't over a grand. (scratch that, drop it to 500 and I'll buy it in a month, I don't care if I don't have a job!)

Elektron also makes some mean-ass synths, although apparently I know a dude who's built a SID-synth to topple theirs, and on the cheap. He just wishes he had a casing as nice as theirs!

YEA- the machine drum is the bomb!!! I got the sample cd by pro sessions for $40 its just a taste of what the thing can do. But your right KNOWN WHEN TO SAY WHEN to gear lust. But i can dream.......

the Fxpansion BFD Acoustic drum module looks great if you can afford the software.

it would be nice if something like it were offered in a portable box with the GUI interface and all.

also, for modules i've noticed the novation rack is reasonable now. i'm trying to track one down for under $300.

Has sick drum kits in it. That is about all I have been using recently. Since it's a rackmount, you will need something to trigger it (MPC) but the sounds are fantastic.

Never heard of the sound exchange. But if its still goin on i'm down for that-someone enlighten me.

yeah go with the DR5. ish is hott. I got one and just gave it too my lil brotha, but i think im takin it back.

i pretty much sample all of my drum sounds.
used to like drum machines, but am into more real, live , dusty sounding drums from the early seventies. i am sure it is just a phase.

70's sounds for me too. Some of them snares are heavy and dirty. Just how I like them

Why you dont just use your MPC??

Sample drums, and set 'em up in your MPC.

yo raven are u hip to the boss dr 770, i used to have one. It got heat, and a huge memory, you can save 400 patterns on there. plus it remarkably similair to the mpc....minus sampling and some features. u can layer sounds eq them and blank out the pad you aint using and sequence a external sampler from the pads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
