sorry for this double post (i also put this in the 2500 page) but check this out:

many people complain about the "cheap feel" of the 1k's data wheel.

personally, i don't hate it because i "grew up" on it - i'm very accustomed to it. i replaced my rotary encoder over the summer after it started breaking down, and now i'm back to the good life.

now let me prephase this by saying that "all data wheels are created equal" - nick and the techs there say that the 2000 wheel are as likely to break as the 1000. he said that of the three, the 2500's rotary encoder seems most robust. apparently, the greatest # of repairs they do to the 2000s they get at VST are simple rotary wheel encoders.

i had nick ask the tech if a 2000 encoder/wheel would work in the 1000. he said there's no reason why it shouldn't - it's just an issue of size and physical room for the older wheel and encoder.

so if some cocky son of a gun wants to give it a shot, there's no chance of messing up your machine unless you've got the butterfingers and drop the soldering iron into a uncovered pail of gasoline and rusty nails next to your sampler.

yeah that's what i'm saying here - it might take a little (lot of) work, but people have a lot of time on their hands

yup, i think its atleast twice the size of the 1k's wheel..

i think if you make the hole for the data wheel on the 1k bigger, you might be able to use the 2500's wheel.. if it works, that'll be dope..
