Need a lil help on Sampling, and Quality...

Ok, so ive got a TON of great loops an stuff on Audio Tape, an I want to chop them up an make beats... I have the chord that goes into the Mic Jack on my PC from the one in my Tape Player... Now it's all good, I can record with My DAW (Adobe Audition) whatever the Tape Player is playing, but theres a MAJOR problem... The quality gets messed up, even when I have the tape player @ the lowest level. It sounds all messed up like a 28kbs streaming MP3, or something, with the computer sounding distortion. I don't want this, I want grainy, fuzzy tape loops, not this crap. Do I need a new Sound Card, or is there anything I could do to remedy this?

Why not sample directly into your MPC?

Im not sure what my sound card is... It came with my PC that was given to me.
How do I set that?
I don't have an MPC.

Does your Card have a line in?
mic level and line level are two different things, if you put a line level signal into a mic jack it'll probably be distorted.

It will surely be distorted.Some people try this option (with mic jack) to have a louder input to the soundcard,but they don't pay attention to the distortion they are getting.Anyway,it's kinda silly what they do (not you DJ-Proficient).
So,as enotide wrote - try line in instead and sound should come in to your pc as it comes out from the tape player
