120GB and UP Hard Drives

Has anyone successfully used one of the Western Digital Scorpio 120gb drives with the 2500?

I'm thinking about getting either the Western Digital Scorpio WD1200UE 120GB or the Western Digital Scorpio WD1200VE 120GB?

Otherwise what 120gb drives have people been successful with? I haven't heard that much discussion about 120gb and up drives on the other posts, only heard hearsay and a few successes.

How bout we just use this topic to make a list of the bigger hard drives that have been successful so say anything 80GB and up...

i went with a 100 gig travelstar. i just took the model number of the 80 gig travelstar that is on the approved list (Hitachi Travelstar HTS541080G9AT00 80GB), and found the 100 gig version with the same specs (HTS541010G9AT00 maybe?). i haven't had any problems.

I just got a Western Digital 120gb Caviar harddrive. It works but for some reason the MPC is only showing that it has about a lil over 114gb of free space. Does that sound right?

i guess. seems strange that the bigger the disk gets the bigger the boot partition cost or whatever you wanna call it.

I work on some big ass servers and this is the same in that enviroment which is how I came to the conclusion. :?

The 120 prob is more like 117, perhaps 118 usable space to start with. What brand disk / product number are you using Tohtruck?


So, my maths is bad, but here goes.

DISK SIZE - UTIL SPACE - %
120GB - 6 GB - 5%
117GB - 3 GB - 2.5%

Therefore;
80GB at 2.5% = 2GB.

So if you have an empty 80GB disk just formatted with the Akai OS, you should find 2GB used from the off??? Dunno, it doesnt sounds right to me either know.

Anyone fancy formattin their eighty and proving me wrong? :cry:

I got a Western Digital Scorpio WD1200UE 120GB 5400 RPM ATA-6. I think that's it at least. I'm at school right now so I can't fully confirm until I get home.

Yeah its a dickload of space but I figured it was a good deal at $89.99 with free 3-day shipping. I figured that if Im gonna spend this much for an MPC I might as well invest in it so that it will be my piece to use for life, otherwise I can probably sell it for a decent price if it doesnt work out for me.

Get this fellas: I wasn't sure what the HDM looked like so before when I opened up my MPC I noticed that it had a tray where the HD is suppose to be but I wasn't sure if it was the HDM or if it was just some standard piece that comes with the MPC and the tray was something extra to fit on it. Turns out I had the HDM the whole time (got this MPC used). So im just gonna return the HDM I bought. So technically speaking I guess I spent about $55 for a 120gb hardrive once I get my refund back. 8)

Oh yeah and I also got the CD/DVD drive for free with that promotional Akai was offering despite buying my MPC used.

And I just finished my midterms.

and my mom's fine despite getting hit by car the other day.

and I'm gonna eat a cheesburger later...

and.. and... Today was good day.
