Cant Understand Using MPC1K, Interface..someone Help!

So I have my MPC1K, M-audio interface (which has MIDI IN/MIDI OUT), and my Edirol MIDI Controller. I can't quite seem to get the hang of controlling my VST instruments on my computer, and getting what I play onto my MPC. I know when using MIDI that it doesnt send any audio. I have my MPC's stereo out's put into my interface, then my MPC's MIDI out connected to my interface's MIDI in. Should I connect my MIDI controller straight to my MPC's MIDI IN? Or connect my controller via USB to control my VST Instruments? I have Cubase and FL, but am lost in the midst of all these connections..haha. I appreciate any comments or links that may help me in finding a solution. I am farely new and still have a lot to learn as you can see. My interface also has a S/PDIF IN and OUT, can I connect my MPC's Digital OUT to my interface's S/PDIF IN? Thanks for any replies! (I know there have been a lot of questions like this, but I still cant seem to grasp the concept, all comment are greatly appreciated)

im using fl studio with the 1k so i can help you there. dont know about cubase.

first on the mpc
make sure that you have a midi out going to a midi in on your interface.
next make sure that on the main screen of the mpc, there is a spot that says "midi" and it will go from 1-16a and 1-16b. i am using midi out a so i set my mpc to midi 1a

in fl studio
make sure that in the midi settings that you have enabled the the interfaces midi input, press f10 and select midi, and assuming that you are using fl 6, the input is kind of in the middle i think. im at work so i cant look for sure.

press a pad and see if the midi light luminates in fl.

if you want to control fpc, make sure that you go to the note selector and drag it down until you see "lrn". if you want to control that pad with 1a, hit 1a and it will be automatically assigned. let me know if you get it or not, or head over to looptalk and search for mpc 1k. i went through this last year when i got my mpc.

if you are trying to record audio, let me know otherwise im not going to go into it right now.

ok thanks man. but lets say i wanted to use my midi keyboard to control the sounds on my comp and use the mpc as my main sequencer. how would i do that? where would my keyboard be plugged into? (its just a midi controller)

if your midi keyboard is usb. plug it into the computer and make sure that your daw is recieving the midi data.

next, take your instrument lines and run them to your interface. set your software mixer up so you can monitor the mpc. basically like you are getting ready to record the audio, except you wouldnt arm the track for recording.

now you should be able to control your vst's while the mpc is playing. this is how i set mine up so that i can play the vst to the mpc track and still edit. and then render it to wav and import it to the mpc card/hard drive.

if you are looking to record directly from vst to mpc, you would have to run your instrument lines from the outs of the interface to the ins of the mpc and then go to the record window(mode +f5)and you should be able to see the monitor react to the vst.

hit play and play your vst and it should record into the mpc.

Keyboard --> MPC --> PC, VSTi --> speakers or MPC rec in
