Hello all,

Does anybody own a combination of Korg EMX-1 and MPC1000? And can that one help me please with some midi issues im having?

I am the proud owner of a Korg EMX-1 and a wicked MPC1000.
I use my EMX-1 as a sketchbook and i want to use the MPC1000 to record the skecthbook-performances i do in the studio.
I (want to and actually) use the MPC as the heart of my studio, routing audio thru it, doing the midi sequencing and mastering as well.....:-). I think it is possible to do all that with it;-D

I have been able to setup my mpc1000 to play all my hardware synths (9 in toal) by using my edirol as masterkeyboard and different midi channel settings in a MPC sequence (so 1-5 and 10 is a emx-1 track in my mpc sequence, cos i related the track # to midi #).

I have a Roland a-880 patchbay which i think works fine and is, for the issue at hand, not used. So i connected the emx-1 straight to the mpc1000.

Here i go:
I put the emx-1 into INT (Master) now and the mpc the slave(by just syncing it on the A port). I allow the EMX-1 to send PCEN (Program Control Exclusive and Note changes). When i put the mpc into record mode (REC and Start buttons) and start the EMX-1 it all **** up. the mpc1000 doesnt start recording, it just stops......
I have no clue as to how to fix this. I want to record everything the emx-1 sends, cos i need it. I need to record the Fx, the banks, patch and control changes. O ja, and notes of course.....

can anybody help me out here or point me to threads that dealt with korg issues? I found some threads here on mpc1000 and Program Changes issues, so i did look for answers already:-D

I can't say for sure what the prob is, but here are some ideas:

When recording in w/external sync, don't press START on the MPC, just hold down the REC button while starting the external master sequencer (I try to avoid using external sync when recording, but this requires you to connect the MPC midi out back to the other seq and disable MPC midi thru).

Next, make sure MPC record count-in pause is disabled. This is accessed via the F2 button on the main screen.

See if that does anything for ya...

you can also just use the mpc as master and the emx-1 as EXT. then when you press rec+play-start on the mpc, it starts the emx-1 playing.

I use my ESX with my MPC, but I feel like there's so much more to do beyond what I'm doing. We need a seperate forum or Yahoo group or something for Electribe MPC users just to post tips and stuff...

ya in my electribe and mpc setup i got my mpc as master and my emx as slave.. reason why is because i like to use both seuqencers.. i like electribes event editor and step editor and i like mpc step and sequencer editor and the song mode for mpc just owns... but if u wanna go into song mode with electribe and mpc on the mpc make sure to have the program changes set on ur mpc channel 1 so it talks back to the electribe if u dont itll send ur electribe out of sync in songmodei n the mpc.. i shit u not...ya its better to have mpc as master .. trust me u get lots of control..
