can the mpc 500 - run your studio?

i wait tables and i have 2 hour breaks between shifts - im thinkni about coppin the 500 or dont know if i should save up a couple hun. more and get a black 1k - what do you guys think? i have outlets at work that will supply the power, i have a portable turntable and it all would fit in my back pack - plus a few vinyls - so what should i do? go for the 1k or 500?? im no beginner on the mpcs so let me know what yall think. appreciate it if i cuold get soem replys. good lookin out. im gonna be getting a sound card fro my pc so will the 500 be able to connect and actually make some good stuff or is the 500 for beginners?? peace my fellow mpc'ers

The 500 can run a studio..for sure no question there. The questionis what are you looking for in your studio. Do you want something you can breakdown real quick and use anywhere or will you just be using it a work or places with a power outlet. The 500 is a portable MPC that runs on batteries(if need be) with less features than the larger mpc's. So like I said, If don't care about the lack of some features and want to take your mpc anywhere go with the 500. It is a very solid mpc. If you want more features with less portability the 1000 is the obvious choice considering price.

If you have the cash I would probably recommend the 1000, in all honesty.

For bringing to work, the 500 is the better option. Also, leave the turntable and vinyl at home. The more efficient way to use this machine on the go is to get a large CF Card... chop a ton of samples before hand...and then go to work with just the 500 and sequence them. Trying to bring all that crap everyday will get annoying quick, especially with the 1000.

LOL............ yeah that's what I do.........chop it up at home, then I'm out the door.

yeah for the time being im prolly just gonna rock the 500 - and you're right about just choppin then bringin the compact flash with me (good point). im just gonna use the 500, turntable, mixer, and a cd recorder to make my demos. does anyone have songs out yet that they've made on the 500?? if so PUT THEM UP!!

haha wow. that's me every damn day. can't say i'm annoyed. after a long day of walking, my shoulder does hurt a bit, but it's worth it.

500 would be more convenient, but we are talking about two very portable mpcs as it is.

i think mpcs in general are gonna start being made smaller...if there are gonna be any more. or at least they should be. i feel like there's very ltitle reason for them to be cash register sized anymore.

Maybe they'll stay right around the size of the 2500...you really can't get much smaller for a non-portable Mpc(IMO)....I would hate to have the buttons on my 2500 all crammed together just to have a smaller unit.

I think subconsciously when people see's bigger they think "this must be better", just look at the 4000 or the MV8000 in both cases bigger just may be better.

......anyway.....

how is it working on the 500, do you feel like the buttons are inconveniently close to one another?

Actually now that you mention it I don't. I think they did a really good job with the layout. I do think that the larger mpc's have a slightly faster work flow(just slightly). My one of my main complaints about the 500 is the step-edit mode,it's down right tedious at times!!1

So, you bring a turntable, MPC1000, and records with you every day and you don't find it annoying? Wow, you deserve praise for dedication... I couldn't do that.
