had no timestretch, zoning, and was only a wave sequencing drum machine.

then sparq came along and dropped the bomb. this was october. then, in the new year, 2.1 dropped. summer of 06, it was 3.0 and the os's that followed.

i just wanted to make this post so people could be reminded how far this box has come.

no other sampler started so small and ended so big in electronic music history.

How are you using it with Abelton..?..I've had the program for some months now.....The reason I ask is, when I go on trips, I take my 1000, AXIOM25 and my laptop....and I would like to get the most out of my little portable set up.

i'm primarily using abletons effects and resampling, or using the warp before i chop it up in the mpc.

i know thats not even a tenth of what can be done with it, especially since i havent messed with midi yet.

i sample live musicians so i do prefer being able to record for hours on end if needed.

it depends on what you do with ableton, i mean, you can use it just to track, editing, or just for the effects, or use it as a looper like kid beyond. or a combo of everything.

check out lives forum, and search mpc, theres a couple of more experienced people than me there that use an mpc in conjuction with live too.

the past few days i've been running it thru my guitar effects and resampling and experimenting. hours of fun :D

i too travel quite a bit for work, so the 1k was meant to be a portable setup during down time for me too.

its great to have on trips, and i just had a silly idea of screwing on a pair of portable speakers cos cans get old real quick.

maybe even on hinges lol :P

don't do it cuz........(mounting speakers) lol

I was looking mostly to track, edit and render with live. I've done some sequencing by rewiring GURU and Reason into live...and working with my samples and wavs in the browser. I still haven't found a use for it with the 1000 since I have GURU (yes it's rock solid like an MPC) and the AXIOM. Although using Reason as a sound module with the 1000 is a beast. It's a nice program no doubt....and it seems to have countless possibilities. I'll soon come up with a way to link the 2 together as I learn more about Live.
Like you said...that combination can truly be wicked when you think of all the possibilities. thanx

i see what you mean.

with guru, reason, live and the axiom you may just be right, theres really not much else you need. plus no extra 3kg's to lug around when on the move :P

performing live might be the only case where you might want to haul the 1k around with you, as youd still get the tactile sense of playing the pads, if the axiom pads arent enough. i think its in Live's live application that a combo of the two would really shine.

fundamentally live is afterall a sampler/looper at heart, on steroids.

but yeah you can do all your tracking, editing and rendering in it. since youve already paired up reason/guru with the 1k and rewire into live and you could use live as an arrangement/warping tool to tweak your compositions. warping is definately one of the most valuable things about live.

ableton type warping should be on the JJ's to do list :P ( if they could do that i wouldnt need to fire up ableton at all  )

that and a hinged speaker mod lol :P

if you have any questions about live pm me and i'll try an help. i've only been using it for a couple of years so hardly an expert on it tho.

...and actually I see the prices rising on ebay since I bought mine in April 2006. I Paid like 650 Euros for the machine with an extra 256 MB CF Card and no extra RAM and with OS 1.0x installed. Now the Prices are about 800 Euros and up. I really think this thing is taking over in the low-cost sector.

Actually...I do have a question. When I use GURU, I create 2 to 3 patterns for verse, hook, and maybe a bridge on different sequence engines (don't kow if you're familliar with GURU)....but I can't seem to record those to different clips in live. It will record three clips, but they will all play back what ever pattern that's selected in GURU.. The only way I can get the patterns to change is if I change them in GURU....Live won record the changes...I got some reading to do to night lol....let me know if you have any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong.

at the risk of going really off topic ( my apologies antonym),....

charlie:

saddly no i've never used guru, but i've been meaning to get it for a while now. i had a fresh look at it after reading your post and i cant believe i didnt look at it more seriously in the past.

but anyway, could your problem be the fact that guru is rewired to live?
i havent really gotten into rewiring much so i'm clueless on that front. is there a whole slave/master thing when you rewire? cos i'm thinking that might be why things only change when you change them in guru, cos live might only have recorded the sequence data as opposed to the audio.

what about rendering out each guru pattern into audio, then loading them into live?

bit of a pain, but it'll then allow you to add fx to each bit if you wanted to.

try asking someone in the live forum, they'll definately know more than i do :P

I think I need to set the midi channels....GURU has 8 sequence engines and they have their own midi channel (1-8). Rendering and bringing it backin as audio may very well do the trick.....Guru also has a way to automate the patterns/scenes......like I said...I got a lot of reading to do lol. Oh...Guru also has some nice effects in it aswell. Thanks, I'll let you know what I find out.
