Ok let me start with saying this is really frustrating. I have a 16 bar wave file, and It starts at one, It is the introduction to the song I am currently working on. I was trying to get the drums to build in 16th notes for the last two bars. So cool, I was going to put it on a 16 level velocity setting for the kick and hit each pad twice. Sounds like an intelligent thing to do. Also Impossible. For some reason around the sixth or seventh kick, the entire sample drops out of my song....WTF?! Help please

maybe polyphony? i dont really understand what ur saying?

Check for:

mute groups

Possible polyphony issues:
how many samples are triggering simultaneously
how long are those samples (do they have lots of dead air at the end)?

Possible OS 2.1 bugs:
go into step edit mode and check for any events that have times that don't make sense (e.g. 0.00.00, or a timestamp outside of the length of your loop.

Possible track length problems:
how many measures do you have set up for your track?
If you just play the sample back, without the kicks/snares. does it play properly, or cut off?
You say your sample is 16 measures long, so presumably you've set the track length to 16 measures. Does the sequence tempo match the loop tempo?

well I would guess that the Sample would count as one voice correct? I mean I dont know how the MPC breaks down voices. But I am only adding a Kick on 16 levels for velocity

The loop is 16 bars. It is just the intro so it isnt really a loop and then the loop is the tempo of the track. The loop has no dead air at the end. And the sample plays right with the drums off. Then the mute groups are all off...Ill check for things out of place in the step edit.

For dead air, check the kick drum samples and so on.

The MPC has 32 mono-sample polyphony, or 16 stereo sample polyphony. If you have a lot of dead air at the end of a sample, then even though you can't hear it, it's still chewing into your polyphony limit.

Another thing to try might be to chop your longer sample into, say, one bar chunks, and then sequence those so that the sample plays back smoothly, i.e. sequence each 1 bar chunk at the start of each measure in your sequence. If you hear gaps or too much overlap, then you know your tempo is off a bit, so you can either adjust the tempo a bit, or timestretch the original sample and rechop.

Glad to hear it. FWIW, you'd run into this problem with any sampler at some point, if you have samples with unnecessary dead air at the end.

For something like a kick, it's worth converting it to a mono sample too, if it's not already.
