Mixing / Panning - Do You Use It In Your Beatz

just wondering what were some of the creative ways
you all were using panning in your mixes

do you mostly pan only your percussion instruments or do you
live by no rules and anything goes?

give details on what instruments give a good sound when using pan
and the method used

also, do you use the 2000XL Internal Mixer or 8 Out Board / Software when mixing down

it's 2004, i am trying to start implenting as much as possible
to my beatz to make them better no matter how subtle it
may seem

NO RULES ANYTHING GOES!!!!

I find the internal mixer is fine for laying out the song in a rough form within the MPC, just to get a basic idea - but there is no way I could see mixing down with that internal mixer - no eq for a start (apart fom the EB16 filter).

I mix and Pan right on the MPC with the internal mixer just to get a rough idea of how i want it to sound... Then I record my shit track by track into Adobe Audition and mix it down... There I can EQ, Compress, add Reverb, add Echo, etc.

As far as what to pan... I usually pan my snares cause kicks never sound right panned to me (not always true though, just my general rule)... But basically I pan whatever the track calls for...

Some good tips rigth here:

String sections sound good slightly panned off to the side with a nice thick bassline in the middle... or you can thicken the string section up by delaying it slightly from left to right stereo track (sounds really cool)

That thickening trick for the strings also works for Piano lines... They sound really cool delayed...
