Recording on MPC low

sup guys, long time no see,
i got a lil question to ask you guys quick quick

When i record drums off my computer to my mpc 2kxl, the volume of the drums seems low...
From my computer i have a e-mu sound card and this card is connected to my beringer mixer (im still a begginer and i know that this mixer aint that great but...)
Whenever i try to higher the volume on my mixer i start hearing a crazy distorting sound.... so i tried hook up my mpc straight to the sound card instead of having it go throught he mixer
And even at that it wasnt workin right...
i took up the recording gain nob on my mpc (duhh)
and still didnt work
so guys whats the solution....
btw i dont know if this is an issue... but when i record i pass my sounds through sound forge and then record

Try fixing the master output level on the drum set in the mpc:

SHIFT + MIXER -> SETUP -> MASTER LEVEL to 12DB

i tried what u said takin the master level up to 12 db
and the volume is higher for the drums ive already recorded
but when it comes to the drums i want to record it doesnt work as well
so basically is the solution the following?:
record all my drums in a master level of 0db
and when i come to record a beat i do it under 12 db

The method I gave you basically is for the OUTPUT VOLUME of the MPC.

I had this problem too when I first started sampling and my sampled sounds on the MPC would be significantly lower than the original sources.

Basically, the MPC's default output volume is 0db (being that you have the Main Volume knob turned up all the way). Setting the output volume parameter to 12db through the mix window, amplifies the sound of the MPC and you will hear that it will be on the same level as your PC.

When you record the drums, make sure your PC channel on the mixer is turned up as high as it can go without distorting. Turn down the Rec Gain on the MPC all the way when you fix your PC's channel. If the signal is still to low, then gain a little bit at a time until its at a comfortable level without distorting.

Trust me, ur samples are at a fine volume, ur mpc is just low. If you need more help on this, let me know, I went through this when I got my home studio first setup and though my MPC was broken.

now this is what i did.. i turned the rec gain down to 0, master level up 12 db, turned up the volume on my mixer wiothout distortions....
i went into sample, record, and when i play the kick from my pc the level meter is really low.
when i record it the sound is still very low...
so this is what im thinkin... u said that the master level is only for output purpouses so this aint gonna change the level my drums are recorded at but its gonna change the level my patterns are recorded at in my pc..
but one thing i dont get is.. when i try recording my drums in my mpc and put the master level at - infinity, im able to take the volume on my mixer higher without gettin distortion therefore am able to record the sound at a higer volume. the only thing i need to do after that is record my stuff in my pc at 12 db and record everythin thats goin in my mpc at -infinity no?

I think the problem lies in the channel ur computer is on, on the mixer.

Turn it up without letting it distort.

Sample in MPC. Then fix mpc's output settings.

Turn up MPC channel on mixer all the way.

You volumes on both hardwares will soon align, just mess with ur mixer till it does. Your PC for some reason is always gonna be louder than other hardware.

My MPC and Motif are equal as far as volume goes, but I can have the same setting for MPC, Motif, AND PC and the PC always is louder than the other two.

in my mpc shift + mixer does nothing. ive to go to global i think to change master level but this doesnt do that much. ive got os 1.71. i was trying it for a while. cos when im recording aomething from the mpc back into the mpc I can see in RECORD that its too low but nothing i do changes it. i have to go into the sample recorded afterwards and boost it. i havent slept since the night before (just couldnt sleep)so the answer may well be in this topic but ive started typing now so im n ot gonna stop.

but after trying ure method i got to record the sounds at a good volume the only problem is
the <boom> of the kicks i try to record arent present any more its like the sounds i have in my computer end up changing in my mpc but for the worst
anythin im doin wrong?

There has got to be some kind of converter where you can take the samples from your computer and put them on a disk or card, and put it in the Mpc and load the files right up without having any re-recording sound degredation. I think Mpc 's are designed to record from things besides the computer. There is alot going on inside of a computer and Ive found that it doesnt really put out a good master output signal to record off of.

I mean you are supposed to record with a computer... not from it. If you do need to get a file from the computer to the Mpc then convert the file in computer with one of the Mpc file converter programs and stick it in the Mpc and load it up.

No sound loss then... at leats I dont think.

Remember if you have a sample in sound forge to normalize it to get maximum volume. I think its under the TOOLS or PROCESS menu go to normalize. I just use the preset menu there and choose 0db. I sample in to my mpc all the time. I t should help. peace.
