yeah that would be cool to see. maybe stan steez would be interested in putting it together, since he's got the pdf skills along with the knowledge.

Do you really have a clue? The MPC 1000 can not compete with an MPC 4000.

As far as an XL...it doesn't have any of the features of the newer MPCs. However, it is solid, doesn't break, crash, and is virtualy bug free. It is still one of the most used MPCs as well as the 3000.

have to agree... the mpc1000 only true competition is the 2500. to compare the 1k to a 4000 is like boxing mike tyson.

Akai didn't create MPCs to compete with one another.

MPC 2500, full featured professional model geared to replace my 3000. 1000, for home studio's on a budget (the first affordable MPC).

just because that wasn't akais intent doesn't mean they aren't comparable. they use the same operating system and same hardware therefore they are more suitable to compare than a 4000 which uses a totally diff OS don't you think? the only thing the 2500 has on the 1000 at this point in time is a cd drive & more i/o. this was definently not the case before the JJ os..however times have changed.

the 2500 also has 2 q-link knobs, more dedicated buttons, and a tilting screen. :D

i think the CD/DVD drive is a huge advantage though. the 2500 can make an audio cd that can play in pretty much any CD player. you could essentially get by with just the 2500 and a sample source. create the beats, record them as audio tracks to a CD and give that to whoever bought your beat. the 1000 would need some kind of DAW to go along with it in order to do that.

if you intend to do things professionally, you would DEFINITELY not be burning a track from mpc to cd to sell. gonna need a daw regardless of what mpc you're using, as all mpcs have really poor internal effects comparatively.

personally, i think the cd/dvd drive in the 2500 is the least cool hardware feature of the box, which, albeit overpriced as all mpcs thus far, is REAL sexy for a unit that isn't meant to be as portable.

additional qlinks knobs? awesome. tilt screen? VERY nice. haha however, i'd honestly rather have seen a cassette player inside a 2500 than a cd rom.

cassette or vhs would have been hilarious and awesome due to gimmick factor and because it would usher in a new sound/encourage new sampled medium/bring noisiness back into hip hop. i know it's a really goofy idea, but you have to admit it'd have been funny in a quirky way.

each sound could be burned to a different track on the CD which could be loaded into individual tracks in protools or whatever multitrack the person who bought your beat uses.

tracks 1 - 4 on the cd would be your rhythm (snares, kicks, hi hats, bass), track 5 could be your main sequence, track 5 could have some changes, etc. their engineer can then add whatever effects they need to the individual tracks.

i haven't tested this as far as each track lining up in time without having to move the waveforms around, but that's what i was implying.

yeah that's much more reasonable, but the same idea could be done w/ compact flash cards. essentially tracking out inside the box w/out expensive computer hardware.

how would the cd rom benefit you there rather than using compact flash? is it an aspect of convenient/disposable medium? i could see that.

By Mike Feedback Sun Oct 29, 2006 10:18 pm
you are correct on the convenient/disposable media statement. i'm not going to give up a CF card that easily, lol.

it would be nice if they allowed you to save wav files to cd or dvd. maybe with a future OS?
