Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000
By quest5 Tue Mar 02, 2004 12:19 am
Im thinking of getting an mpc4000 with the optional adat board, hooked up to a digital mixer like the 01V96.
Is the adat full-duplex? I guess this is an 01v96 question aswell. (will I be able to play out of 8 channels into my desk whilst simultaniously recording in on 8 channels/sampling back into the akai).
Thanks in advanced...
totally new to adat thinking.. 8)

ur wrong, man. I got the ADAT card and it's 8 out on top of the L/R out. The ADAT in is 8 channel too but ya can only sample 2 at a time.
And yeah, ya can sample 2 in while playin' on the 8 outs.

Doctor Beat...
When you say you can sample in only 2 channels at a time whilst playing out of 8 channels of adat, do you mean, you can sample in using 2 adat in channels (returning from the digital desk)whilst playing out of 8 adat outs(into the desk) or that you can sample in using the 2 analogue XLR ins on the mpc when using the 8 adats?
cheers.. and thanks for ya help... just need to get my facts sorted before ditching the computer as my main tool.....

Ya can do both. It don't matter. While usin' the 8 adat outs into the desk ya can sample in mono or stereo from any 1 or 2 ins (analog XLR or phono, spdif, adat, main out, internal CD). 8)

I'm using both at the moment but still finding my way around the 4000 which just isn't portable enuff for me, the 1000 is really portable and quite nice to use - but I wish u could convert progs between the two. i think a lot more people will get both if you could do that....
