Do I really need an MPC?

My reasons for wanting an MPC are probably not the norm? Back in the day I used to sequence music using a Yamaha QX3 stand alone sequencer. These days I have quite an extensive midi setup with plenty of keyboeards and Cubase SX as my main sequencer. Yet I long for the days when I don't have to look at a computer screen to make music and just create pattern loops and paste them together. Thus my desire to buy an MPC 2000xl or the 1000. Although it's not the only reason my main reason for getting an MPC is for sequencing purposes. I realize the limitations of only having 2 midi in/out but if I can work quicker and spend more time making music rather than trying to figure out why my computer based program(s) aren't working I'm willing to switch. How do you rate the MPC as a sequencer? Are there other sequencers that compare or could do the job? Thanks for your replies!

I'm very bias but the MPC 2000XL IS THE BOMB PERIOD. Timing is tight and I'm learning more and more each day. I've had mine for a couple of years. I don't know what type of music you make but if like your beats to punch plus have rock solid timing, the MPC is for you. If you think the limitations of the MPC 2000XL midi is a problem get a midi thru box. All you need is imagination and talent. The resolution is 96 ppq which is not much by today's standards but for what I do, it gets the job done. If you want a higher resolution, MPC-TUTOR has tips to get around this. Buy it. PEACE

MPC are fine for sequencing AND sampling...if you buy one you will discover many things that you'll like for sure....go on, man....

BTW,MPC 2000 or 2000 XL is better than the new 1000 because they have this SCSI interface, and the 1000 don't...

I used to have a roland r-8 and I know how you feel. ANY mpc will give you that feeling again and much more since it's years ahead of the those older yamaha and roland machines.

I would say either get a 3000 or stack the extra G and get the 4000....for the 4 midi outs...since you said you use midi very heavy.....the same job would get done.....on the 4000 it might be better.......the 2000xl is the bomb though

i just got mine like 2 months ago!!!!!! i used to make beats on a yamaha prs 640 and a boss dr770 (one master other slave). i went over this one producers house( the one that did nas's and p diddys hate me now beat) i wasent really hip to the mpc. i watched him make the track with it using it to sequence a korg trinity. he made a slick track in like 5 minutes. i knew it was the mpc!!!!!! i asked him some questions about it so i saved and coped one. when i took it out the box i knew how it basically operated just fome seeing dude. I still havent mastered the machine but i see how powerful it iz . cop it

The TR-808 and R8 initially taught me everything I know about drum programming.

The ASR taught/introduced me to everything I know about sampling and keyboards.

I owe ALOT to those 2 machines (*bowing and paying homage*).

i learn a lot about drums programming with a Roland TR 626.....won't get younger....

im sure there is loads of shite music being made with the mpc...don't get fooled into thinking it will solve all your problems....

I want to thank everyone for your replies. I think I'm gonna take the plunge and get an MPC 2000xl/1000?(now that will be the big issue). There are those who prefer computer based sequencing but I guess I'm in the group who prefers creating music the MPC way. Anyway, thanks again and peace and love from San Francisco.
