sampling question help if you can.....

i posted this before but that thread kind a died so i thought i would ask again.
i know using an noisegate is a good way to snag snare sounds, but what is the best way or is there a good way to get good kicks?

get some old disco records, usually there's isolated kicks and snares in the beginnings of the old disco 12" records

Run a mic into the MPC, lay it on the ground and kick it. You might want turm your speakers down first and use a mic that you borrowed.
Or you could go and buy yourself some cheap funk or disco records and start sampling. I'm sure once you've sampled 5 kicks and used the mpc's layer function you'll be able to get a decent kick.

Kick a mic? Thats a little unorthodox. Maybe a dynamic, maybe. If you want good kicks you have to dig for em. Go through old rock and funky records. Find the "break" in the song. A break is the stripped down instrumental when all the music drops out except for a funky ass beat or percussive solo. It might be only for two bars. Sample that rhythm than chop that beeyotch up. Get like 2 kicks and 2 snares and a hat. Do that. Also try filtering your kicks and boosting the res in program. That will add some beef to your kick.

damn homie........I think you would've a million dollars easy in the flintstones.........I never thought of that......but i have mic'd up and palm'd it real hard...that works also......caution:kick the level of your speakers down....you might not want to monitor it at all

i appreciate the tips, but i guess i wasn't to clear.
i understand about sampling breaks and such i was just wondering was there a program that ya'll use to extract kicks. like using a noisegate for snares works real well.
when i sample from a break it is rare to find an isolated kick all to it self.
i have tried the whole adding air to the end of a kick so it doesn't sound cut off but have not had very good luck.
anyway kicking a mic is an interesting approach.

There's no program I know of that will "EXTRACT" just a kik.
You have to dig, records CD's and tapes.
I use noise gates for kicks also, works fine for me.
Also you got listen hard sometimes to find that lonely kik.

Ooh, I forgot about the old trick too... lay a record on the turntable and play it, then hit the stop button... now tap your finger on the record firmly but not hard enough to make the needle jump, if you adjust your eq when you do this and turn the bass up, it makes a thump noise like a kick... the stylus is almost like a mic and it transmitts the sound, so it makes a deep thump sound... try it and mess with it and filter it and you'll see what I mean...

I used to do this live for my dudes all the time...........tap the record and beatbox.........i never sampled it though............
