well if i understand your questions right:

use your computers CD-Rom (it's cd reader, no matter what kind of reader) and then connect through the usb transfer option. it's simple! or you can just sample direct into the the sample-ins on the MPC (digital-ins are there too).

ok

..but will my computer recognize the Akai format?

You may need software that will read Akai format CDs. If you mean MPC2k format, the computer will probably read it natively as it's just a form of FAT. If you mean Akai s1000 or s3000 format CDs, you'll need something like Chickensys' Translator.

I haven't messed with any of that since I've never had a CDrom for any of my samplers, but I'm sure someone can help you out further, just figured I'd give you a jumpstart.

It will with the right software... Chicken Systems Translator, CDXtract and others can read Akai Disks, but I don't see any that can export to MPC1000/2000XL format directly. Translator has this planned for the future. Otherwise, you'll be dumping WAVs and reassembling them on the MPC as new PGMS.
