Urgent Mpc2000xl / Zip Drive Question

I've been working with my old MPC2000XL for years now, but only just run into a problem with saving and backing up my programs and sequences.

I've got a 250MB Iomega SCSI Zip drive hooked up to the MPC for saving everything, but I've started preferring to chop and work with my samples in my PC for ease of use, so I've also got a 100MB Iomega USB Zip drive hooked up to my PC.

The problem is, when I format and save to the Zip disks in the MPC, Windows XP won't recognise them and when I format and save to the disks in Windows, the MPC won't recognise them, so I can't save and export from one to the other. I never had this problem before, when I was using an internal Zip drive in my old PC.

Has anyone else has this problem and have any solutions to save me any more wasted beatmaking-time? Also, I don't think it's 'cos of the difference between the 250MB and 100MB disks. When I put a 250MB disk into the 100MB drive, it just spits it straight out, but the 100MB disks work fine in the 250MB drive.

get a card reader so so much better

Scuse my ignorance but I didn't even know it was possible to use a Card Reader with the MPX2KXL. Bearing in mind I've got the old model (SCSI, Floppy drive etc), would I stil be able to do this?

So you format the zip disk / cf card on the pc and your samples are stored as 16 bit 44 khz wav files and your filenames are limited to 8 characters?

This is the solution I came up with to somewhat solve the problem of PC zip to MPC zip & MPC-PC communication. I have a 250MB zip installed in my MPC and a 250MB iomega zip connected to my pc by USB. I went to iomega.com and downloaded the latest version of iomegaware I think the latest is... 4.0.2 This program contains all the latest drivers for most PC Operating Systems to read zip disk. (Don't worry Mac users it's also availabe for Mac X,9.X, and 8.X) I had the same problem where my PC couldn't read a zip formatted on the MPC and vice versa. After I installed the iomegaware software I can format a zip on my PC and my MPC recognizes it..so now I can go back and forth. I know this probably doesn't help anyone who already has info on MPC formatted zip, BUT it will make your life alot easier in the future..maybe one day we'll all switch to card readers

Yeah that's exactly how I solved it in the end too. Downloaded the Iomegaware software/drivers and then I was able to format the Zip discs in Windows XP and have them be recognised by my PC and MPC.
