Oh you will........and when you do, you'll notice that the 500 has something very special about it. The way the pads feel, the fact that it's so small and yet so very powerful, the display, the button layout, the on screen menus..............I could go on , but all of these aspects of the 500 really give the machine a lot of character.IMHO

Read the specs on your machine, you'll be better informed to compare the two mpc's.

the 2kxl is a big bulky unit that has outdated storage specs. Sure it has better pads and a wav editor etc.. but most of those functions arent even nessecities when it comes to creating a quality track.

Its far more logical for a newer MPC user to go for a new 500 instead of a used 2kxl, because of the technological advances...

Not every new MPCer wants to have the high possibility of spending extra on memory expansions/ floppy disks/CF flash disk drives/ repairs/ lcd screens/ optional outs etc....

i think for its price point, it will bring a whole new crowd into the mpc world that never before could attain an mpc...

$650 is pretty cheap in the grand scheme of things for what you get in that lil box. I mean, yes you can get a used mpc1k on ebay, and i considered it, but ultimately i love the size of the mpc500, and the fact that its battery operated...

now i can take my gameboy, my yamaha cs-01, and my casio sk-1 out into the woods (for up to 3 weeks) with my mpc-500 and compose extremely strange music.

Exactly... but that all said, I could see why someone would want an MPC2000 over the 500. I love the pads on the 2000 the most of any MPC. I'd love to get the original MPC2000 again...the one with just a floppy drive. That was my first MPC. If I ever see one for a great price, I will buy it.

sounds like fun, camping out with the portable gear.
too bad it's getting a bit too nipple out to go camping this time of year. but a good bonfire and plenty of liquor would make it more comfortable.

btw, you gotta circuit-bend the casio sk-1.
i bent mine and it's insane!
can't wait to bend my yamaha vss-30. that's gonna sound even more bizzare than my sk-1, from what i've read.

lmao man 32mb is way too much sampling time needed i dont sample whole songs kid

and who said the mpc2000xl has out dated storage man im using Compact Flash Cards just like all the new mpc's

I didnt come in here downing the mpc500 cuz lord its a ok lil box for plaing out on the roads or somthing.

it shouldnt be ur one and only workhorse which is why i said he should return it and buy one after u have a main mpc

in all realness, i'd pick a 500 > 2k(xl). nothing is worse than having to work with scsi. the two machines are one in the same in my opinion...that is, if you dont need the extra analog/digital outs...or more midi ports.

i disagree that you can't create full tracks with the 500, or have it as your standalone seq/sampler. you might not like the menus, or the 2 line screen, but anyone with any experience can get over that quickly. if you only need 1 midi port and 2 outs, why would you bother with having to go through and learning all those options? basically, you trade in a few functions for portability which is the point of the product anyway (though some say it's just a collector's piece).

as far as the debate on specs go...the two act in the same fashion (sequence wise at least), so that's why it comes down to the specs.

SCSI is so damn old the mpc2000xl saves on Compact Flash Cards Now with Internal IDE Card Readers i dont use scsi and probably never ever will

Also im sure u can make beats on the mpc500 But i would never choose it as my main mpc

You have no problem with the limitations on your 2kxl, why would anyother kid have a problem with the limitations on their 500?

my point is that both the 500 and the 2kxl will get the job done. If you cant create anything of value on the 500, your still not going to create anything of value on the 2kxl - and visa versa.
