I wont pay for the MPC..

Not that I am trying to steal one, but I just cancelled my order for a brand new one from VST..
I was initially just looking for a drum machine and got the tip from a friend to get the MPC4000.
A little bit pricy for a “drum machine” so I went for the MPC1000.

But after reading about the issues, bugs, lack of support from Akai and the fact that I would have to pay a Japanese dude for an OS that works just doesn’t sound right..
Don’t get me wrong here. I am all for that JJ should get paid for the effort he is putting in to this.
I am just not brave enough to pay that kind of money for a machine running on a beta version of a half ass OS and then know that Akai will ignore me when I’m having problems with it. (I even heard that they will install b-stock stuff if you need repair to be done under your warranty)

Yes, I know, it’s still an awesome machine, I’m just not too keen on supporting Akai if they decided not to support their customers..
Fender wouldn’t get away with a beta guitar, Ibanez wouldn’t get far with a beta bass and I am sure as hell that no one would buy a beta piano from any beta company, so why should Akai get away with it?

If I am going to spend that kind of money I could just as well go for Elektron’s Machine Drum. They even reply not-yet-but-hopefully-soon-to-be-customers.
Did I mention that they speak Swedish too?

Seems a bit of a pointless post. The "unofficial" JJ OS is being used by a lot of happy customers and has seen some of the best after sales support ever for this market in terms of response to feature requests and bug-reports.

Two points - the Internet makes people lazy with regard to forming opinions and, if you're going to research soemthing that involves shelling out your hard earned cash, ensure your resarch is thorough.

I cant believe someone is making an attempt to put the "drum only" Machine Drum in the category of a MPC, any MPC, 500 included!? I had a E-MU PK-7 which is a Synth and just because it doesnt sample there is no comparison to the MPC 1000. I think some people try and use tech support to replace those countless hours of "getting familiar" with your machine. It is not normal to "get it" out of the box. All highly praised things get a bad name, the MPC is too Regal. ("That's why people feed pidgeons and shoot Eagles" -Little Brother)

I can read your comments and tell you haven't done your homework. The recent "akai approved" OS is working flawless on my MPC. I havnen't had any problems with it. I honestly havne't even found a reason to upgrade to the new OS yet. Maybe the MTC might might me decide to switch, but as of right now it does everything I need done. What bugs in specific are you talking about in the current OS. JJ's is still pretty new and of course over time bugs will be discovered as he doesn't have 30 people jamming on MPC's at his house to find them all, so the fourm basiclly has to be used as beta testers to find everything. As of right now dont get a MPC if you have a negative vibe about it, you will find someway not to like It. I have had mine since the day it dropped and contine to support it.

Your loss man... it's a great machine... I think you are over reacting... there are not really any problems that are that critical with ANY of the OSes... but to each his own.

Care to tell me the bugs (i actually know most of them, but just wondering if you actually do, or if you are just passing on misinformation that you've heard and not seen...) The MPC 4000's OS has been fairly stable for quite a while... Can it do with some improvements.... sure.. so could the MPC 2.5k, 1k, and .5k.... But it's working pretty darn good from my perspective...

My MemoryMoog+'s operating system hasn't been updated for a very LONG time but it seems to hold it's own....

I'll take a 4k over a 2.5k, 1k, or .5k any day...
