I NEED MAJOR HELP... PLEASE

ok im on my mpc and im making all these crazy sampled beats... but now i need some type of DAW...becuase im making this beats and they sound really good untill i go to put them on my laptop... i know the way im putting them on there is some ****...cuase im just using and audio 1/4 jack.. from the headphones on the mpc.. to the mic in line on the laptop and recording into cool edit... dont laught.. but thats all i could really do at first .. but i realized that there is no way anyone can rap over my beats when they sound muffled and f'd up etc....it sounds nice in the mpc.....but when i record it into my cool edit.. it sounds terrible when i put it on a cd and play it in a stereo or in my car...

so basically im askin on a good DAW to use wit a laptop.. i have a real nice laptop.. its not cheap... but im not gettin anygood quality this way.. please help me out if u understand what im talkin about or where im coming from...

what should i get?.. I would like to get it software based if possible... but remember im using a laptop.. ????????????????????????????

My friend, you need some sort of external sound card/daw interface. The generic sound card inside your laptop can't even compare to a pro or pro-sumer audio interface, because for one, the converters are'nt good at all. And I'd also do away with using CoolEdit and go with something more mainstream like Cubase or ProTools. These two determining factors will put you in the game if they're corrected. It's really all about sound quality as opposed to quality sound. You get this portion of your recording chain squared away coupled with some good talent, then you should be able to compete with some of the top dawgs or at least sound as good as them.

The only reason i use cool edit is thats what i used for vocals back in the day.. so i just stuck with it becuase im familiar with it... but this quality is killing me... ...i need some suggestions.. thanks

i just want to use VSTi's and my MPC seamlessly.

well, i'm partly there. i have the midi-controller but now i can't find a decent host for VSTi's without dropping 300-500 dollars on software and 200-300 on a better soundcard.

i'm a very frustrated man lately.

i know exactly how u feel.. im frustrated too...

i just want to take my beats off my mpc.. into my computer throug usb.. wit good quality so i can master.. and mixdown..

Yea, that Mbox 2 interface (coupled w/ pro-tools le) is a good starter. I would also setup a second PC (preferably a desktop) so you can go even further with your recording skills (if need be). Also a lot of folks try to dis the midi part of this equation. Midi is one of the most important factors to making music these days. It helps to lay the foundation to a song as well as keeping all of your gear sync'd to a master syncronizer such as Pro-tools, Cubase, Cakewalk & others. It would help to invest in a midi patchbay so you won't run into any problems connecting all of your gear together as well. This stuff is'nt complicated. It's only complicated if you want it to be.

and i use fl studio for my software. its good and it doesnt cost a lot. and it supports vst's and vsti's. and its easy to learn. once you get the hang of it, you can do a whole lot with it.

what up cozy.. thanks for the reply/advice... yea alot of peeps been talkin about the presonus... how does it hook to your computer?.. usb port?.. i think thats what ima end up gettin.. but ima use a different program with it... u plug any mics into it?.. how is the quality.. holla back

its actually a firewire. i only have a 4 pin firewire port so i need to use an external power supply.

yeah i use a condenser mic with it. it has built in phantom power.

in fl studio i am getting 2.5ms latency, not sure if you know what that is, but its the amount of time that your computer takes to process your signal. if you have a high latency, you will hear an echo when you record. i hear none at 2.5 ms. its a great little box, but eventually i am going to have to move to something bigger since it only has 4 ins(2 instrumen/preamp ins and 2 stereo ins, which my mpc is taking up both) if you are going to need more ins and outs, i would go for the firepod. its a couple hundred more than the fire box.

the box is good though. i like it alot. no problems
