Post your views and questions about the Akai MPC2500

If you're wondering whether to install, do it. unless of course you're a big fan of the features which JJ has left out (ie direct recording, writing cd-r etc.)

Overall: bloody brilliant :D

So no direct recording? I really want to try this OS but I really need direct recording.

But the OS is not bug free....

It was one of the things Akai suggested to combat the freezing when saving or creating folder problem.

Lets say I upload the JJ OS and there is some kind of a problem with my mpc(i.e. won't power on or freeze's up at boot up everytime) and I have to send it in to akai. Will my warranty still be valid If I mail it in with the JJOS on it ?? I don't think so.

Your thoughts........

Here's a quote from an Akai correspondence back in July it's pretty clear;

We have recently become aware of this OS version and must caution you, this IS NOT an official OS release from AKAI Professional and is being put out by a third party. We discourage the use of this or any third party OS, as this may potentially damage your machine and void your warrantee.

Wow thanks........I'm not sure I even need the JJOS. I'm going back and forth on this , but for now I'm going to stay away from it. I want more feedback from the guys that are trying it.

OK, and what is the answer form Akai to the midi clock sync problem? At least with the JJ OS there are no sync problems at all.

Perhaps this new OS is not bug free, I haven't checked it in deep but Akai OS with the sync problem for me is a complete mess. It's not only about recording loops, if you use other hardware or soft sequencers together with the MPC and external synths / drummachines, you can hear the beat lose. This makes the machine completly useless for me.

From my point of view, you guys should stop complaining and warning about this new OS, everybody is free to use it or not, and complain to Akai for their dodgy OS and their slow update.

It's what I think.

From my experience (3 or 4 hours putting a beat together last night) JJ's OS is alot more bug-free than Akai's!

Well he just gave you back your TAP TEMPO now if they would give back
-the MIDI C and D
-the Numeric KeyPad
-the snap to on the Q-Links

That's right that's stuff that's missing on the 1k so the ported 1k OS doesn't know it supposed to be there.
Would be nice if he had the 2500 Source Code

Also the 5 minute shifter is no longer an option for INPUT THRU.

Wow...I didn't really look into it much yet.....All those functions are gone? WTF?

As far as Rozzer comments about bugs...it really puzzles me because I rarely run into any issues with my MPC 2500. Staying in the forums as I do, very few have run into major issues..besides the MTC issue where if you knew how to use your DAW, you can work around that with a click of a button or two.

Well, since the JJ OS pretty much makes the MPC 2500 a 1000...this OS is not needed for me personally. If I want a 1000, I can just go out and spend a few hundred at GC.

JJ, you are on the right patch but gots to step your game up a little bit more if you want to collect a few more hundred dollars for your time. You can make more money selling JJ modified MPCs on eBay instead of selling the OS as a download  Need a partner?

Well since 3.01 the Numeric Keys are more functional but not totally.
Here's the biggest thing about the JJ OS.
The MTC works, Akai's worked then it was broken so fixing it should have been something they responded to in a more timely fashion.
The Detect Tempo is still broken so they added the old XL style beat match with you inputting the number beats.
The other features are personal choice not broken aspects of the 2500.
Sad part is that they are both 2 problems that Akai could have be more responsive on.
Can't say itf the create a folder and saving is better since I never had a problem with either.
We should see an update from Akai shortly since they will simply just decompile JJ code if he is really third party or because he is part of Akai.
Either way he is doing the programming for them.
One way means he has a salary the other means he doesn't.

The two big problems in the last Akai OS (for me) were broken MTC and the save bug, which really got on my tits. If nothing else, I'll be using the JJ OS just because when I save a project, I'm confident that it'll load up again as it should.

Of course the other little additions (such as quicker beat chopping - which I do alot of) are welcome to.

Now i don't understand your comment about the JJ OS turning the 2500 into a 1000. You've still got all the hardware differences, which no OS can take away and from what i can see of the 1000 JJ OS, he's developed a superior version 4 which is commercial. i guess if he does this with the 2500 too, that's where the real differences in 2500 vs. 1000 will become apparant.

You mean MIDI ports C and D don't work at all?? Oh heck naw, I can't live without those ports ......so that settles it for me until they fix this issue.

It all starts from the fact they aren't writing to the 2500 code they are modifying the 1k code.
That's the reason why things like the Q-Links, Numeric Keys and MIDI C/D ports don't work.
The 1K doesn't have them so addressing them is not a straight forward process.
The JJ 2500 OS is a modified 1K OS not a true 2500 OS.
If you actually go through some of the features that were added to make the 1K more like the 2500 you will see a lot of redundancy because the 2500 features are still there.

upright i think there's really no problem to test it and if u dont' like go back to your os

i don't have a mpc 2500 but i see some many scary people in 1k forum too... welll i (as i used to be) am curious.. so this big new choice i coudl take in consideration....

with this os my toy 1k is now a really professional machine... to work with logic and mac... so i'm not a newbie

Worse than not working they simply don't exist, they can't even be selected.
