I didn't really find the beat chopping to be better or faster with the JJ OS, the stereo to mono of conversion was a nice add.

i don't have a mpc 2500 but i see some many scary people in 1k forum too... welll i (as i used to be) am curious.. so this big new choice i coudl take in consideration....

with this os my toy 1k is now a really professional machine... to work with logic and mac... so i'm not a newbie

It's not an option right now because I use the C and D ports. It also scares me a little to know that it's an mpc 1000 source code

i think the only risk could be if u use to save something in hd or other...
but jj pass through this into 1k so i think he know the bug and solve it

what can i say is that that os really rock (this at least for 1k)

so to be sure backup your hd and card.... the only risk is there

JJ should have just started with the 2500's OS, instead of using their 1000 OS and trying to modify it to work with the 2500.

in fact, it probably would have saved them time if they had used the 2500's OS in the first place and modified that for the 1000. it's a lot easier to take things out than to implement them.

btw, i didn't install the JJ OS. i don't want to be a beta tester. and i don't think i'll try it until it has everything that the akai OS has plus more.

I think this is where I stand for now also.

Well that's probably how Akai started too ;)

It's early days for JJ's OS. i know there are problems. I'm just saying I think there's alot of promise there. Of course, it's going to suit some people better than others depending on what features you do/don't use. My guess is that most of the 2500 'missing features' (missing midi ports etc) will re-appear soon.

JJ should hook up with someone to translate English better on the site. Its really bad.

In the future use ..... http://www.google.com/translate_t

It's a nice tool for any translation

The two big problems in the last Akai OS (for me) were broken MTC and the save bug, which really got on my tits. If nothing else, I'll be using the JJ OS just because when I save a project, I'm confident that it'll load up again as it should.

Of course the other little additions (such as quicker beat chopping - which I do alot of) are welcome to.

Now i don't understand your comment about the JJ OS turning the 2500 into a 1000. You've still got all the hardware differences, which no OS can take away and from what i can see of the 1000 JJ OS, he's developed a superior version 4 which is commercial. i guess if he does this with the 2500 too, that's where the real differences in 2500 vs. 1000 will become apparant.

I never had saving issues. As far as MTC, it works but not like the MPC 2000XL and 3000 so I never used it. And besides...I do al MIDI onboard my MPC and only record AUDIO to my DAW. No sync is necessary for that. I do understand how some can be a little annoyed but using the tools in your DAW...this problem is not really a serious problem.

The JJ OS does turn the 2500 into a 1000 in the sense that it doesn't let you fully utilize ALL MIDI outs, CD burning, and also the ability to use analog outs 5-8 for those audio tracks.

If the 1000 and 2500 can share an identical OS..what makes anyone think JJ will make the final 2500 OS more superior than the 1000? [/quote]

No the MTC doesn't work because the way it works is not how MTC works.
It has nothing to do with how past MPC's worked, it has to do with the fact that MTC is supposed to work a certain way.

How do you track to your DAW without sync?
The Audio still needs to be locked to track, are you one of those people who slide the audio around to line it up?
I track audio to PT and it's critical that the audio is accurately time based so if you have to go back to it for any reason it has a stable basis for you to work.

You do not need any sync to track into a DAW. Its an option.

You can arm your DAW to start recording and press play on the MPC. I think I know what you are getting at but it is not really an issue. If a vocal starts at measure 4.02.95 and I need to move it four bars...click a few buttons and move it to measure 8.02.95. Or if the MPC records into the DAW and starts at measure 3.02.25 ( :D )...I can lock ALL recorded tracks so they maintain their relative positions..and move the tracks so that the first beat starts at 1.01.00 within the DAW. Takes a few seconds to accomplish this.

So while I can see what you are trying to say...the issue has never stopped me from doing anything.

...MPCs of the past had MTC that worked perfectly for me. From what I have been told......the 2500s MTC will only work if MMC is turned on....which in the past was unrelated in MPCs and other devices. Hey...I didn't program the 2500 so you will have to take that up with Akai.

As far as the JJ OS.....was the real-time pitch shift really removed? If so, it looks like he is teasing to build up for the paid downloads

Me either, but if a company advertises a certain feature (hell even manages to make it work for a while) but then breaks it, users are entitled to be a bit miffed. You obviously don't use MTC - thats nice for you, but for those of us that do, the JJ OS is most welcome :)

To trade the my MIDI ports for MTC? No thanks.

OS 3.01 thoughts.....

1. You can write CD-Audio from wave files loaded into RAM with the JJ OS.

2. The vocal function where it lowers some low end sounds and bring out vocals more is cute....

3. Fixed the audio tracks so they can be routed to ALL 8 analog outs.

4. MIDI OUTS C and D still non-functional

5. Tap tempo and Go To buttons don't work

6. Graphic sample editing reminds me of the XL which is better IMHO.

7. Not really sure if I like the Chop Shop feature..but it does visually help you understand the threshold and recovery time settings

8. Number pads need to be fully functional in the Chop Menu

9. Bring back the real-time pitch shift and make it fully functional

10. Let us know what is fixed, removed, or added with each OS release.
