dj'ing with a cdj and mk1200.. anyone shed light on this?

Im looking to buy a cdj instead of another 1200 so i can mix my cd's to. I have a much bigger cd collection than vinyl but some gems on vinyl so i wanted to mix.
Any of the dj's on here do the same thing or is this really unorthodox and not done by any dj's. would be nice to get some feedback on this...

i rock 2 techinics with a cdj on the side, that way if i want to drop a cd i can, but i'm not limited to the cd vinyl cd vinyl cd vinyl game all night.

only vinyl ... and vinyl only!!! for me.

but i have seen dj's use both JM said thats prolly the way to go.the guy i spin with uses a lappy to play sometimes.but he just throws it on when we have a number of request for things that he has on it.

has any one had problems with these cdj's what's it cost to fix these piece's of shi+, prolly bank huh? with a turn you can open it and fix it with a cd you have to take it to get fixed inless you a real techy kind of guy.

mine stays safe. hasn't broken in 2 years. it does feel like a toy though, really light, not like a technics, which is built like a tank. there are tradeoffs for each. i've had to replace the tonearm on my technic (a wild night at the club left it bent), no repairs to the cdj. i definatly use the turntables more. scratching on a cdj (pioneer) is weird because you aren't working with the weight of the platter or it's torque.

i think imma try to find another cheap technics 1200.
then go the connectiv route (m-audio interface).
i havent seen anything on that here... cuase there are a bunch of very promising vids on youtube...

but a cdj wouldnt be that bad... i dont want to be a turntablist or anything.. just spin some dope music...

You should try the cd players out. Records skip,cd wont ever skip.If you have a computer you can always burn your own music and make your own samples. If your djing see what is easier to carry a crate full of records or some cds. You can scratch just like on a turntable and more. If anybody that has cd players cant do what they did with records its not cause of the pllayers.

pure laziness.
ive been doin this for 28yrs and i still lug my crates around like a champ.
this is just a way to becomoe one of those fat dj's up there pushin buttons is all.

and whats worse a cd scratch or a vnyl scratch.
at least with vinyl you can move over the scratch and still enjoy the song,
on a cd you have a terrible noise and have to shut it off or go to the neext track.

dont compare the two cause there's no comparison.

Obviously you have never used cd players. I have been djing for 16 years and I have both. It has nothing to do with pushing a button, the cd wont mix by itself. Please tell me how you carrying a crate of records and some cd will make you a better dj. It dont matter if you carry a elephant in and out ,that wont effect your skills.Do a search and see what all the other lazy well know djs are using. I love vinyl too and been using it for years. And no they dont skip you can turn it upside down.Its not my opinion its a fact ,find out for yourself. So if I try a car and you rode a horse and buggy all the time,that would be just lazy on my part huh?vIf you that old you shouldnt want to be carrying all them crates

cds have a different feel, there is latency involved, sound quality is not as good.......

i could go on and on....but this arguement has been done to death

as for me "obviously never using CD players" i've DJed everything from weddings to house parties to club gigs.

i've used cds alot as well as a ton of vinyl control stuff......

nothing is the same or as good as vinyl.

CDs skip too, and digging through a book of CDs in the dark is not condusive to mixing

a small flashlight in my mouth and a tons of heavy crates suits me fine

and once you get good enough, you can learn how to bring less vinyl to a gig

i have used cd's once in my life to do a gig, but it's not the same,to digital feelin as far as mixing and all that.

about the car thing i ride a bike. i have a car; but my wife uses it ,

and about me being old KID... i didnt say anything about feeling my age, this business keeps me young at heart so you are as old as you feel and i dont feel my age, i still gig two-three times a week and i still ruun a store and manage my family and i wont stop carrying crates for nothing,

thats the truth i only carry two lp cases and two bags and two small boxes of 45's and that has me rockin for hours of fun, plus i get tips for what i play when was the last time you got
45 bucks tip on 2 song's that you didnt have to (cheat).. i mean download.

Dont get offended cause I said something about age. I told you how long ive been djing so you know im not some young buck either. We dont have to agree with each other. You keep saying that your not saying cds are cheating or require no skill ,then you go and say the opposite.Trust me I love vinyl too. I agree its not da exactly the same,but it is still good and no they dont skip . I have both setup in my basement and use em on an everyday basis so im not just getting into this and sayin vinyl is better . When i first bough em i was like damn i wasted my money on this. It takes getting used to but it is not cheating. I dont know what type of cd players you used but pressing a button dosnt make the songs blend. You also have to be faster because they are smaller and the revolutin is greater.We dont all have to agree but It just a personl preference.

how do you figur it faster it 3 and some odd min same a record? just you cant see the break groove is all, and that if you dont know your music, if you know your music it should be that hard to know where the break is at.

i only own like 50 cd's and i dont use those for djingeverything i play is on vinyl i did a party once with at the most 5cd's i burnt and yeah it was cheating cause i didnt have that music till i down loaded it , now as far as skillz they would not mix them selfs i had to do that and that required the same skillz i use for my records, i said mixing skillz you cant cheat of course, but downloadin music you have dug for is cheating to me .
