cd drive

does the cd drive burn a song on to a cd in mp3 format or what kind of format?

.wav only

It writes audio not WAV.
The CD's can be played in a normal CD player so it can't be WAV, it's just audio.

What's funny is the CD-M25 still works with JJ's OS, I think he was trying to explain a feature he planned to add for the CD like being able to use it for file storage, not that it would stop it from doing what it already was capable of.

Should have been more specific and/or thorough.

Its burns .wav files as audio cd tracks...my bad

Good guess...but I think he meant that you can not burn CDs using files that are on the hard drive or CF card. You have to load them into the MPCs RAM first and then burn them to CD-R.

Well the CD scheme on the 2500 needs some refinement anyway, be it Akai, JJ or the lady down the street.
I can take a CDRW and write MPC folders with PGM, seq and sound etc and the 2500 will load them just as it would from the HD or CF so they should have just given it the ability to write to it as well.
At least I can still burn a CD or what's on the CF and load it as a CD.

Initially, data backup to CD was an advertised feature of the 2500. Akai initiall advertised audio CD burning with the MPC 4000. The 2500 still doesn't have data back up to CD and the MPC 4000 doesn't have audio CD burning
