wouldn't it be cool if we could apply quantize strength with a percentage value?

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't 50% swing equal to no swing effect at all?? I don't think you can get lower than no swing. :)

I'm kinda clueless as to what you guys are really wanting here. What is the point of quantizng by percent?? How would it work?? Is there gear out there that quantizes by percentage that you found to be really user friendly or something?? Please explain.

No offense, I just don't get it.

Upright,

say you record a sequence without quantization, and you have a note on at 1.1.12 ticks, apply quantize at 100%, and the note on will be moved to 1.1.1. If you select a 65% quantize strength, the note on would be moved to approx 1.1.4, which might make the sequence sound a little less robotic and more human.

Logic Pro has that feature.

The way the MPC swings is one of the reason why it has been so popular for almost 2 decades. Software companies have been trying to duplicate the Akai MPC swing in its products...not vice versa.

Quantize % strength has not really anything to do with swing. It's the amount of quantization applied. Have you ever used the sequencer in a pro DAW? Check out Logic Pro.

You are correct about the Quantize % strength. Yes, I have software based DAWs that have this function but I am not that fond of.

What I mean to say and imply..is that the way the MPC works today and yesterday...doesn't need to be messed with. We are still trying to get Akai, JJ, or whoever to return the classic Timiming Correct MENU of past MPCs.

MTC works like it should here withe JJ OS. I had problems with it before, but now it's as it should be.

About the quantize %, just because it wasn't there for 20 years means it shouldn't be added. It's a nice feature IMHO.

Possibly...but my vote is no.

As it stands today, the 2500 is not up to par with the MPC 3000 in this regard (Timing Correct menu).

oh, thought you were talking about Time Code menu...

I don't remember what was better about the 3000 Time Correct menu.

Time Code menu? How did you come up with that? Time Code menu has to do with MTC, Midi Clock, MMC, etc.

The MPC 3000 has the ability to apply swing to one or all tracks...and also apply note shifts to one or several pads/samples in a track or multiple tracks all in the same menu.

What the % actually does is move notes relative to GRID so you can actually place things closer or further away from the normal quantize positions.
Go or bad depends on your style of drumming.

As far as the MPC goes is basically the older MPC's had the Timing Correct and Shift Timing available in one screen.
That screen gave the option for duration of time, notes and tracks as well.

Now the 2500 can only do Shift Timing from the Sequencer Editing screen and the Timing Correct screen now does an entire track or selected pads.

In theory you can still accomplish the same task but it's not as straight forward and doesn't vibe with the machine.

Example if you knew you wanted your hats to be 16th's w/ 57% and 2 ticks late, the old MPC allowed you to set your timing that way then play.
On the 2500 you would have to go in after you program them and shift them around from Shift Timing screen.

BUT thanks to the GRID Edit and Quant set to off, you can get drum positioning that on the older MPC's required long drawn out cut and paste in step mode.

Still it's on the list of things that need to be put back, no doubt.
-Old Timing Correct Screen
-XL style Beat Match
-4K CD functions

And can we get a shift function that allows you to select a sample in memory by typing in the name.
