MPC 2500 after 1 year and 1 month

Its been just over 2 months since the release of the MPC 2500. Currently, it is operating on OS 1.00b. Although it peforms well for the most part, there are some issues that need to be addressed quickly with an OS update, mainly the note-off 'bug' with MIDI OUTS C and D. This feature need to have top priority.

Other than tweaking the currect OS so that it performs flawlessly...here is my list of features that I would like to see in a future OS upgrade (in no particular order):

1. Multiple Continuous sample tracks (16 minimum). Allow the audio in these tracks to follow tempo changes in realtime. Allow Patched Phrases to be assigned to these Continuous sample tracks.
2. Recording/streaming samples directly to/from hard disk
3. Enhanced effects/dynamics (EQ for each sample). Effect Presets.
4. MTC sync
5. Expanded sequencer (300,000 notes per sequence..just because)
6. Data compatibility w/ all Akai S/MPC formats, and Roland/Emu CD Roms
7. Sample editing: Resampling, coverting stereo-mono, and mono-stereo
8. CD burning: Data back up and Audio CD recording
9. Screen Saver
10. Quantization: Place note shift back in the Timing Correct Menu
11. Recordable track mutes
12. Auto assign of samples to program upon loading
13. Auto Chromatic Assignment
14. Display levels when sampling 2500 outputs
15. Aksys Software for the 2500
16. Sample slice: generate sequence data for sliced samples (slightly different than Patched Phrase).
17. Better implementation of USB (pain in the azz plugging/un-plugging USB cables )

The MPC 2500 could be perfect with these added functions I can use the 2500 just fine without these functions....but having these functions will take it to another level.

So Akai..JJ...or whoever is listening....here is my most current list...
New feature request:
1. Auto assign multiple samples to a program from load menu
2. Assign up to 2 MIDI channels per track
3. Compatibility with all Akai (at least S series) and Roland CD Roms
4. Improved real-time pitch shift (not just 5 minutes...not only on input)
5. Real-time timestretch
6. 300,000 note sequencer capacity
7. SIMULT
8. 4 band EQ added to filter section (for each pad)
9. FXs routable to any output
10. Ability to resample--lower or raise bit or sample rate
11. Nameable MIDI OUTPUT ports
12. Import patch scripts
13. Record on ALL 16 MIDI channels at once
14. .....ran out of ideas

This would be great.

don´t forget a working sync - i had to go back to 1.1 cause after that sync is not working with logic

Proper midi sync to DAW with either beat clock or MTC is number one for me. I want to use the MPC with Reason and dump MPC audio into DAW with Reason rewired. This can't be done unless sync works flawlessly. Sync works with Reason stand alone, but once the DAW is introduced into the loop, the sync just goes crazy. I'm still running OS1.1 and it don't work with this set up either, at least not with ProTools M-Powered or Cubase SE. Also Aksys would be great because I love the prospect of having my MPC and computer work together with love. One.

personally, i think #4 on jahrome's (old) list is the one i want akai to fix. other stuff aside, if that one got corrected, i don't think i'd care much about the other features.

As far as sync....forum members have reported that MTC works perfectly with the JJ OS. I haven't tried it personally though.

yeah, but i was never really all for the JJ OS to begin with, so as long as it gets corrected with Akai, which it will inevitably will, I'll be happy.

I also...the one I keep overlooking.....is to bring back the FULL Time Correct function of the older MPCs.

BRING THIS BACK! It was perfect before so why mess with it?

If any of you guys used an MPC for longer than a year or so...you would know what I mean...

I'd really like to be able to back up folders to cd. that and realtime timestretching and im straight.

Just do it from the computer the MPC will still be able to load the folder from the CD.

True...but DATA BACKUP to CD-R was an initially advertised feature.

Also, with the MPC's internal hard drive, CF card, and a fully operational CD-RW drive, a computer would not be need for such functions.

yea thats the only reason. i do use a computer to do this now. but it would be easier if I could do it straight from the mpc.

300,000 notes - LOL, let it go maaaan! I still remember the post .. because you can right?

As for the rest of it - yep yep and yep. If only Akai would blah blah blah. (Doesnt matter what I type, they wont listen anyway)

It depends on how you go about it. Numerous features have been added to the Akai OS this year that wasn't in the initial OS.
