somebody has some experience with one of both machines?

i used to have an mpc 1000, but the pads suck, so i sold it. now i want another mpc

these are my questions about the 2500
are the pads more solid than the 1000? are they easy to change

these are my questions about the 60
does the 60 have note repeat? are they standard floppies u use?

thanks in advance

If those are you only concerns between the two then it won't matter which one you pick :?

Yes, when choosing between either of those two there are much bigger concerns and differences between the two.

I've briefly owned a 60 (bad eBay deal: fried out backlight broken disk drive no upgrades but I didn't know any better and it was my first MP) before trading it in for a 3k and then trading that in for a 2500. What a pain the arse.

I've never owned a 1k. But I've never heard of anyone having to replace or service an unresponsive or broken 2500 pad. That said the 2500 is still a new machine and who knows maybe in the long run of a couple years people might find problems win the 2500 pads.

The 60 takes Double Density disks. Lower capacity (720 kb) than your standard HD disk that you've probably frequently used with your computer. 60 has note repeat. But what you should be more concerned about is what you are looking for in terms of workflow and sound quality.

60 is a 12-bit machine. It has that dirty lo-fi late 80s early 90s golden era of hip-hop sound. At least thats what people say. I found the 60 to be slightly grimey but alot cleaner than I had hoped when I purchased it. It has a rock solid sequencer. However, any OS before v3 can be a pain to work with. There are a number of limiting factors in the 60. Low capacity sampling time, since they're old it is difficult to find a clean fully functioning unit, difficult to interface and cooperate with a computer, no visual graphic waveform editing, saving projects and sounds is a pain with the low capacity disks. Even with the v. 3 upgrade and SCSI option you may still experience alot of hinderances with your workflow especially if you want to utilize a computer with your set-up.

That said the 2500 pretty much solves all the above problems. However, the sound quality will not be as desirable if you want the lo-fi "golden era of hip-hop" sound. The 2500 is also alot more expensive. But take into account if you get the 60 and want all the upgrades or are trying to find a clean unit with all the upgrades it can easily cost upwards to $1,000. The 25 will still be more expensive but you get ease of use, convenience with interfacing with a computer, a bunch of other niceties (you may or may not need). Plus in the long run if you want the 12-bit sound you can just midi up a 12-bit rackmount sampler and it'll be like having the 60 sound with the 25.

Think it over and do alot of research all MPCs have note repeat the concerns you mentioned are really trivial. Think about it you're comparing the very first MPC to the very latest MPC (not counting the 500).

thanks

i'll probably go for the mpc 2500... i like the looks of the 60 better though...
i just use it for drums, since i quit sampling a little while ago... if i get a lot of work, i might buy both

if you truly want that grimey golden era of hip hop sound and want the functionablitiy of a 2500, you can get teh 2500 with an s950. it has the same 12 bit sampler as the 60, and the samples are easily transferred into the 2500.

I'd suggest an EMU EMAX rack to go with the 2500

The limitations of the 60 compared to the 2500 are simply not worth it.

I vote for the 2500.
I love mine.

I too owned a 1000 and I couldn't stand the lack of responsiveness from the pads. The 2500 gets you all the bells and whistles from the 1k with the sweet pads.
