Lamp said it. Turn your quantize off......

Mahe a quantized Hi hat loop, Turn Quantize off. Play the entire drum loop with your hands not starting on the one , start on the snare and play around to the first kick. Just get jazzy with it and do not use full level on the pads, have some velocity sensitivity for a real kit feel. That is how I do it or instead of a quantized hihat take an old funk loop and play over it then remove it.

And do it on a 60 and or 3000. Just Kidding

real drummers live, don't play with the quantize feel, that's why it sounds like a real (J Dilla) drummer playing.JDilla is not the only human with the mpc that's doing it. listen to ma man Lamp! 8)

thats pretty much it. try this. only use quantizing on the kick and nothing else. drum the snare in a tad bit earlier than the metronome tick. and for high hats, hit them a tad bit after the metronome tick. use the velocity on that one too. and for more flavor, ad a snap or a clap to the snare and dont quantize it. it takes time and rhythm. but honestly, theres so many other ways to do it. study cats like battlecat, illmind, symbolic one, black milk, and kev brown. its not as hard as you think. that is if you have rhythm.
