In the manual on page 91, it talks about using an external FX processor to effect a pad assigned to one of the mix outs. Could you use a VST effect to do this?

yes you can . but have in mind, that your computer in which the
VSTs are running, causes a latency. so you will hear the fx not
in time.

hmmm.
I wouldn't be suprised that you could get the latency down to something acceptable if you have a sweet sounds card / pc setup.
Perhaps you could just shuffle (groove / tc whatever) everything accept the FX forward a bit, until it syncs?

either use top of the range soundcard, or record them seperately, and resample them back into the mpc and then over dub them and remove originals? or ye to make things easier, get the baddest soundcard on road, n hope the latancy adds a sexy swing, as per my man above me, how you doin up there? hahah

I use RME Fire face 400 which is top range and with my laptop i can
go down to ca. 2ms latency.
Even if this seems to be a good number, 2ms is 2 ms. It´s not
REALLY sexy, so I re-record the sound with the FX back into the
MPC. If you do this, don´t forget about the FX tails (reverb etc), don´t
cut them . Also have in mind to fade out clicks in the beginning and
the ending.
I use cubase SX for that.
If you have a slower soundcard, record the MPC sound DRY into
PC, put FX onto it, re-record and back into MPC.

as I stated before in other post, I use an Alesis Multimix 12 FireWire.
I can send all the outs of the MPC to all the ins of the multimix, get those stream in my VST host (ie.: Audiomulch) and then apply whichever effects I want before sending the mixdown back to the multimix, through the 2-track channel.
This card supports ASIO, latency is kept under 300ms or something, so not really something everyone would notice...
sound card is 650$CAD though =) + you need a good PC if you want to run many VSTs at once.
But it's totally doable, you just need a sound card with as many inputs as you want independent effects...
